GPS Field Technician

SOL is seeking a GPS Field Technicians identify infrastructure and other permanently positioned items of interest and accurately acquire the GPS coordinates thereof, enter required and preferred information about the item, and uploading the data (coordinates and information), digitally for use in a geospatial information system (GIS). Responsibilities

• Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Work as a team member and independently both with moderate supervision.
• Confirm the type and identity of targeted items.
• Enter the required and preferred information.
• Occupy the targeted item with the specified GPS unit and acquire the position.
• Provide a picture of the area that includes the targeted item in the image.
• Provide the picture, information, coordinates as combined data.
• Upload the combined data so that it’s available for GIS.

• Strong sense of direction.
• General photography skills.
• Interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel to job sites.
• Comfort with technology, including software and mobile devices and GPS devices.
• Organizational, inventory, and time-management skills.

Minimum requirements

• An associate degree is preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.
• A valid driver license with an excellent driving record is required.

Preferred training and experience

• Experience with commercial grade GPS equipment; professional is preferred.
• Experience in public works infrastructure inventory and inspection.
• Experience in underground utility infrastructure.
• Training will be provided.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, squat, bend and lift and carry 20 pounds frequently during the shift.
