Position Title: Ambulatory Infusion Registered Nurse - PRN

Department: Ambulatory Infusion

Supervisor’s Title: Ambulatory Infusion Manager


I Position Summary: Oversees the needs and successful delivery of quality patient care in the ambulatory infusion unit.

II. Principal Functions and Responsibilities:

A. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

B. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal care.

C. Solves procedural problems and makes independent decisions concerning emergency situations in the absence of physician or other medical authority.

D. Maintain positive and effective relations with coworkers, other departments, patients, family members, and visitors.

E. Understands and follows the Idaho Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the ANA Social Policy Statement and works within those parameters.

F. Maintains a safe, clean, orderly, quiet, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.

G. Stocks and maintains adequate levels of supplies and proper functioning equipment.

H. Communicates effectively with physicians and mid-level providers both verbally and in writing.

I. Assures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.

J. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information and abides by established communication code, ensuring HIPPA is always followed.

K. Maintains awareness of the ongoing Quality Improvement studies within the unit; assists with the implementation of corrective actions determined necessary.

L. Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines as necessary to ensure continuity of care.

M. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, meetings, and workshops. Attends staff meetings as required.

N. Cross-trains to all stated units per manager request (Med-Surg, Chemo Infusion)

O. Schedules patients according to treatment needs in a timely and effective manner.

P. Responds to phone calls, e-mails, and other forms of contact in a timely manner to provide efficient communications with health care professionals, staff members, and patients.

Q. Administers medications and performs procedures based on the instructions provided in the package inserts and per physician orders to provide safe and effective treatments.

R. Understands the charges for patient services and appropriately charges patients for services and medications provided within the Ambulatory Infusion Department.

S. Consistent, timely and effective demonstration of core nursing process and skills t o organize, prioritize, analyze, and document data and assess needs, identify problems, plan, and provide patient care, education, and treatment.

T. Available as a resource to nursing staff and other health care professionals related to skills and treatments provided within the Ambulatory Infusion Department.

U. Consults and communicates with the Ambulatory Infusion Clinical Manager and keeps manager informed of both clinical and non-clinical needs and all patient care activities.

V. Performs other related duties assigned or requested.

Requirements:

III. Position Qualifications/Requirement:

Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.

Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing

Preferred Minimum Experience and Skills:

* At least one year experience as an RN in an acute care setting.

* Infusion Therapy experience preferred, but not required,

* At least one year Oncology experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred, but not required.

Certification, Registration or Licensure:

* Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Idaho

* CPR certification

* ACLS certification required within one (1) year of hire.

* Training and certification with expansion of service line as needed.

Physical Requirement: Able to lift, position, push, and/or transfer patents; able to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods; occasionally subjected to irregular hours; able to do considerable stooping, bending, and kneeling; lift supplies/equipment.
