SUMMARY

The Production Engineer function is to maintain and continually improve production processes and documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintain and continually improve production processes and documentation (i.e. FEMAs, Work Combination tables, Process Flow Charts, Standard work check sheets, Spare parts lists, PM schedules, PFUs, BOMs, WIS, Condition standards, Daily check sheets, PCRs, etc.).
  2. Support Internal Audits.
  3. Develop and implement documented corrective actions for customer complaints.
  4. Analyze scrap and labor inefficiencies, identify root cause and implement countermeasures to reduce. Summarize and report savings.
  5. Pre-trial evaluation and involvement on new parts and programs.
  6. Maintain awareness and understand the roles and responsibilities regarding the environmental policies, management system, and objectives and targets by attending the required training. Perform all tasks in accordance with the EMS procedures and practices and minimize the impact of their activities on the environment.

Additional Paint Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and manage Preventative Maintenance project schedules. Negotiate timing with vendors and production.
  2. Maintain paint working environment. (i.e. HVAC, Air Handling Equipment, Boilers, Air Compressors, RTO, Palin, Etc.)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communication skills.

Able to print, read, and identify critical characteristics on a drawing.

Knowledge of Toyota Production System.

Experience in a cross-cultural work environment.

Ability to negotiate and communicate requirements for product/process improvement with production, quality, vendors, and contractors.

Demonstrated Project Management skills

Skilled in visual management and presentations.

Ability to perform PFMEA development/updating and root cause analysis.

Strong analytical skills and interpretation of data.

Skilled in gage or check fixture use and interpretation of data.

Additional Paint Qualifications:

Able to setup and run hand spray.

Able to relieve production for breaks and lunches on all positions.

Fully capable to clean and rebuild paint guns, mixers, trees and lines.

Capable of programming Kawasaki and Fanuc robots.

Ability to judge color and other key critical quality characteristics.

Additional Injection Qualifications:

Thorough understanding of injection molding operations with respect to plastic automotive parts.

Thorough understanding of thermoplastic resins.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates or Diploma in Industrial Maintenance, BS in Engineering discipline, or 16 years equivalent experience as an engineering technician in paint.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Clear, concise written and verbal skills and problem solving skills required. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of team members.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Microsoft Excel required, MS Project experience a plus

Skilled in using AutoCAD or other drafting software

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform medium level mathematical calculations and to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as data analysis, percentages, flow rates, calibration slopes, etc. Also capable to control variables in an experiment to determine root cause.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals or molten resins which will require special PPE.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position, and hours of work should be set to that of the department you support. Typical first shift is Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 7 to 4, or 8 to 5. Typical second shift is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. or 4 to 1:30. Typical third shift is Sunday through Thursday 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Overtime throughout the week and weekend may be required as job duties demand. It is an engineer’s responsibility to maintain and kaizen capacity, scrap, and cycle time to prevent overtime.

Salary Range

$68,000 - $90,000 Per year
