Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Transportation & Facilities Attendant operates a variety of automotive vehicles and various hand and power tools and provides recreational duties maintenance. Responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. This position also accomplishes a variety of custodial and customer service tasks such as greeting patrons, opening and closing facilities, set-up and breakdown of events, and maintaining equipment inventory. Performance is reviewed through meetings, customer feedback, and results obtained to ensure conformity with established policies. Work is performed under close supervision - the incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions; work is checked frequently.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operate a wide range of automotive vehicles that may include pickup truck, 15 passenger van, mini bus, and 40 passenger coach bus and power and hand tools.

Transport participants to and from designated stops while maintaining a safe environment and in accordance with the policies of the City of Winter Park guidelines; follow a scheduled route; assist passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle and with loading, unloading, moving luggage, packages, and other items as needed.

Perform pre and post bus inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards and compliance with proper safety standards.

Maintain attendance records, seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information; communicate via radio dispatch as appropriate.

Ensure the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations.

Perform routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities; maintain neat and orderly appearance.

May be responsible for pickup and delivery of inventory and supplies.

Treat all guests, customers, and other persons in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner.

Meet all dress code and grooming standards as set forth by the city.

Assist with the set up and take down of community center programs and events, as well as facility maintenance.

Greets patrons as they enter facility, communicates and enforces safety rules and regulations.

Opens and closes facilities, cleans and sets up rooms, checks out equipment, maintains equipment inventory.

Perform other work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices of the work.

General knowledge of operation and routine maintenance of vehicles.

Ability to work flexible hours to respond to City needs.

Ability to safely operate city vehicles in compliance with all state and local laws and City policies and procedures.

Ability to detect required repairs and to make necessary simple adjustments to automotive equipment.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Ability to deal tactfully with the public, city officials, employees, and interact with other city departments.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.

Ability to make critical and difficult decisions with some direction that conform to the policies and procedures of the City and the Department.

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.

This position is performed with general knowledge - the incumbent is generally familiar with information contained in relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field; has ability to use relevant sources to obtain specific or supplemental information.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of two years of experience operating large vehicles is preferred. A satisfactory driving record, with at least three years of driving experience in the United States is required.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver License, Class B or higher with air brake and passenger endorsements, or have a CDL Permit and the ability to get the license within six months of hire.

Note: All certifications must be current at the time of application and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical

This is light work requiring the exertion of 0 - 20 pounds of force occasionally and 0 - 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.

Ability to traverse about a variety of city jobsites/facilities and other locations, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to remain stationary in a vehicle seat for extended periods of time and constantly operate a vehicle for up to several hours at a time.

Ability to manipulate objects and demonstrate small, precise movements repetitively.

Environmental

Tasks may require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc.

Sensory

Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
