Job Description

Key Role Description

The Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer works to improve the operational availability of fixed equipment assets within the refinery including piping, pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, valves and other process equipment. Responsibilities include providing day to day technical support to refinery Operations and Maintenance personnel, troubleshooting equipment, developing repair plans, performing root cause failure analysis and evaluating inspection results. The Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer identifies, develops, and champions improvement projects and programs to optimize equipment life and plant profitability.

Technical Knowledge - demonstrates the specific skills necessary for the assignments, understands the background and points of leverage to be effective in the role.
* Knowledge of fixed equipment design and inspection codes including ASME B31.3, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, API 510, API 570, and API 653.
* Demonstrates understanding of Process Safety Management program requirements prescribed in OSHA 1910.119 including Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance.
* Familiar with industry specific damage mechanisms and applicable inspection techniques for detecting and quantifying damage.
* Interprets and evaluates inspection results
* Performs Fitness For Service evaluations per API 579
* Conducts reliability engineering analysis and trending
* Conducts life cycle cost analysis
* Develops equipment maintenance strategies and designs repairs
* Supports development and improvement of the inspection program
* Leads Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and develop effective corrective actions.
* Develops maintenance and inspection procedures and training
* Assists with equipment selection for capital projects and develops shop inspection and test plans.
* Supports Turnaround planning and execution.
* Identifies the process and economic impacts associated with equipment failures and operating reliability.

Experience and Skills

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
* BS degree: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
* Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Experience:
* Wide range of experience considered: entry level through seasoned professional
* Compensation and responsibility will be commensurate with experience level
* Maintenance or Reliability Engineering experience in a Mechanical, Technical, or Project Management role in a high-risk industry such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing is preferred
