Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee

THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will collaborate with the District Planning and Programming Supervisor (PPS) to support the creation and upkeep of transportation plans and programs at the statewide, regional, or district level. This involves establishing project schedules, developing comprehensive funding plans and budgets, compiling reports on the progress of these initiatives, and liaising with local agencies involved in the planning and programming process. You will assist the District PPS in the strategic planning, formulation, revision, oversight, and execution of transportation plans and programs within south-central Pennsylvania in compliance with federal and state mandates. This specifically pertains to the Altoona and Johnstown Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) and the Southern Alleghenies Rural Planning Organization (RPO). This position assists in coordinating and executing the PennDOT Connects planning initiative within the district. Additionally, this plays a role in organizing the district's activities related to bicycle and pedestrian planning, ensuring alignment with established goals and objectives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
