SCOPE


The Designer I applies creative thinking, design skill, knowledge of manufacturing techniques, and Computer Aided Design Drafting practices to the generation of layout, assembly, and detail drawings for structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and electronic equipment of simple to moderate complexity for a variety of OII-MSD projects. The Designer I may also prepare sketches and other graphic information for use within technical documents (e.g., Operations and Maintenance Manuals) and proposals. Originality and imagination are key to this position, as there is typically restrictions to space, size and/or weight that are applicable requiring invention of systems/components that do not currently exist.

Duties & Responsibilities

* With detailed instructions, prepares three dimensional solid models (SolidWorks part and assembly level), layout and detail drawings, including application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, for moderately complex equipment or mechanisms.
* Tasking may include preparing engineering drawings, layout and detailed design of mechanical systems using drafting techniques (AutoCAD or SolidWorks).
* Selecting various electrical and mechanical components to meet performance requirements with the help of a Designer II or Designer III.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED


* Prepare illustrations as instructed for technical documentation and proposals.
* Support engineering activity with solid modeling to prepare models for use and export into engineering analysis/simulation software including merging and meshing of parts and application of load vectors under the direction of Engineering, Designer II, Designer III, or Design Supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:


* Actively pursuing bachelor's degree in engineering.
* Associate Degree in related engineering field, or equivalent work experience.
* Formal Training in use of solid modeling software (i.e., SolidWorks)

EXPERIENCE:


* 0 - 2 years applied drafting experience.
* Proficiency using software such as AutoCAD and some experience in solid modeling (i.e. SolidWorks) experience required.
* Computer skills using Microsoft Office products required. Technical writing skills are helpful.

KNOWLEDGE:


* Familiarity with ASME Y14 drafting standards.

OTHER PRE-REQUISITES:


* Candidate will have to perform in an ISO-9000 rated company in a rapidly changing and demanding atmosphere.
* U.S. Citizenship is required.
