Position Overview

The primary role of the Telecommunications Technician TeamLead is to assist in installing voice, data, and access control networks.Telecommunications Technician Team Leads are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning. In this role, you will lead the work as part of an Installation Team to represent Development Group's core values and company goals. This position reports to the Director of Operations??


Installation Technician I

  • Provide direction and coordination for personnel working on the jobsite. A typical onsite team will include up to four (4) personnel. Some jobs may require the coordination of personnel from one of our subcontractors.
  • Responsible for making sure that planned work meets quality standards and is completed on schedule.
  • Work with designated on-site customer contact(s) to address any concerns and ensure effective project execution.
  • Use expertise to anticipate job-specific requirements to maximize productivity and profitability while maintaining high quality standards and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Work with project managers to build project schedules and identify high level tasks required for completion.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of implementing the following:

o Structured cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), terminations, telecom room build-out, ladder racking, wall mount cabinets, grounding, conduit and cable pathway, cable testing.

o Fiber termination experience preferred.

o Access control: low voltage DC power, door hardware, door construction, sensors, installation and troubleshooting

o Installation of various IT devices including access points, UPSes, clocks, speakers and surveillance cameras

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must possess manual dexterity. The ability to use and operate hand tools, powered drills and drivers, on and off ladders; must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance.
  • Min 5 years’ experience performing structured cabling work.
  • Manufacturer training/certifications preferred.
  • Ability to get things done; must be self-confident, possess a strong work ethic, and be continually focused on improvement, innovation, and bottom-line results.
  • Ability to recognize own capabilities and take initiative to continually improve; ability to seek out feedback on self.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace which is English.
  • Ability to quickly escalate to superiors in conflict situations.
  • Proficient with computer systems such as word processing, email, usage of the internet, etc.
  • There are no minimum educational requirements to be a Telecommunications Technician Lead, High School Diploma is recommended.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school classes in general shop, welding, mechanical drawing, blueprint reading, physics, and mathematics are helpful.
  • Some work tasks are performed indoors; temperature is moderate and controlled by environmental systems.
  • Some work tasks are performed outdoors, at various times of year. Ability to work in a variety of environments is required.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for an average shift of 8 hours. Occasionally shifts can be more than 8 hours.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Some equipment can exceed 150 lbs., must be able to work in coordination with teammates for proper execution.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach different floors of the building on a timely basis.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment and products. Including climbing ladders and using battery powered/ or chorded drivers and drills.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment as needed including but not limited to non-slip shoes, protective eye wear, and protective gloves.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of times standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

• Proficient with standard software applications including Microsoft Office.
