Job Description

A Carter Lumber CAD Drafter is responsible for utilizing computer-aided-design systems to create detailed millwork submittal drawings. Strong ability to examine and interpret architectural blueprints for commercial/residential construction. This includes but is not limited to assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams including all necessary notes and details required for manufacturing.  A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.
Requirements to be considered for this position:

  • Experience as a drafter in a woodworking or manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of Adobe / Microsoft Excel/ Microsoft Word preferred
  • Millwork engineering experience
  • Experience with 3D software (AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or Wood CAD CAM, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Understand CNC machining and G-Code
  • Express professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Mathematical skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Woodworking and/or Mechanical assembly knowledge
  • Plan and prepare preliminary layouts and detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches, and/or other drawings, ensuring they meet company and industry standards and codes.
Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Ability to thoroughly examine and interpret architectural intent from commercial / residential / construction drawings, specifications, and supplemental documentation
  • Ability to review RFI's from architects / general contractors and respond with detailed accurate answers
  • High level of experience interpreting commercial / residential construction drawings
  • Substantial knowledge of commercial / residential millwork and casework
  • Work closely with salesmen to insure installation of product is seamless
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the AWI standards
  • Review shop drawings making sure all submittals are accurate and as required for submittal
  • Produce high quality shop drawings from architectural drawings, sketches, specifications, verbal and supplemental documentation
  • Drawings to include fully defined elevations, cross sections and details, finishes, bill of material lists
  • Operate the CNC machine
