Position: EMS Applications Engineer (Electrical) Location: Sacramento, CA (Hybrid) Duration: Contract Job Description: Key job duties of this position are: EMS application support - engineering support. Production issues happen on ---- applications like the contingency analysis, power flows, load frequency control, load forecast. 6 to 7 different EMS applications being used by various business users like control room operators, other teams in Ercot. This position requires the candidate to support the applications and issues that are reported, troubleshoot and identify the root cause and help dev team , vendor, work with respective groups to help in resolving the issues. Second part: project involvements - several projects in queue that need participation - review, and understand the requirements, projects could be driven by NPRR, or Technology upgrade or any major functional change and business request. Understand the requirement and development - delivers the design, candidate is expected to understand the design delivered by the dev team and understand the limitations and test the changes in detail. AT environment and SAT environment and ensure that deployment plan is developed correctly with all application steps and once it is deployed in production, verify the applications and then support the applications deployed. Another key responsibility is: we execute several production processes, weekly model loads, and we perform site several production specific support activities. Weekly model load is critical activity. application needs to be verified. Work with various teams, control rooms, and various market operations, business users, and time to time with market participants on various issues that they report. May also participate in stakeholder meetings as need arises. Skills/ requirements for this role: Contract to hire and direct hire options. Power systems background as well as experience in IT. EMS Applications Engineer – Grid (II/III/Senior/Lead) JOB DUTIES Understands and applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and ERCOT's culture. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Impact is generally limited to specific assignments or projects. May respond to inquiries and/or provide assistance and/or guidance to lower level workers. Level 1- EMS Application Engineer Responsibilities: Works under the direction of a senior level engineer or supervisor/manager to complete departmental goals and assignments. Performs all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory requirements and organization policies and procedures. Member of the 24/7 EMS Applications Engineering support on call team and supports, troubleshoot EMS applications and system on call issues. Assists in the proactive enhancements, improvements and issue remediation. Coordinate application set up and testing with TDSPs, QSEs, LSEs, REs as appropriate. Performs EMS network model load testing on periodic basis and updates the model data in real-time based on established procedures. Design and Test EMS Interfaces and Web & Client/Server applications changes. Makes independent decisions except in instances of unusually complex application scenarios Works on the most complex application issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors Works with database administrators and infrastructure teams on complex EMS application issues triggered from server/network/storage/database components Tests Non-Functional requirements of EMS application changes and coordinates with database/infrastructure teams to performs the tests Fosters and leverages strong working relationships with other internal departments Lends professional expertise to guide projects and help teammates assigned by manager Demonstrates skills as an expert user of power system software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices All Levels -- Preferred Work Experience Experience with GE or any EMS vendors suite of EMS applications Experience with Generation Application, Automatic Generation Control (AGC) Understanding of Generation Control Concepts Experience with Data Historians such as OSIsoft PI Experience with programming languages such as FORTRAN, C, C++, Java & Perl. Experience with PL/SQL EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field (Required) Master's Degree : Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field (Preferred) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required EXPERIENCE Level 2 Engineer: Requires minimum 2 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements Level 3 Engineer: Requires minimum 3 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements Senior Level Engineer: Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements ***There is only one position available, and it is open to a level 1, level 2, level 3, or Senior Engineer depending on the candidate's experience that is identified.
