Chief Stationary Engineer

Our client in the Buffalo, NY area is seeking a Chief Stationary Engineer to be responsible for all aspects of the Engineering department to include the proper operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration and mechanical equipment. Develop, coordinate, and monitor a maintenance program to ensure the safety, security and comfort of all staff and guests. Assigned responsibility of Safety Committee Chairperson. Supervise, train and manage all Engineering staff.

Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor a comprehensive maintenance program to ensure the safety and functionality of all mechanical equipment.
  • Supervise, train, and manage all Engineering staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health codes, plumbing codes, electrical codes, and building codes, as well as adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain standards and procedures for operations and safe working conditions within the department.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance activities, as well as respond promptly to emergency situations and equipment failures.
  • Manage the departmental budget, including forecasting expenses, tracking costs, and prioritizing expenditures.
  • Collaborate with other department managers and external vendors to coordinate projects, address issues, and ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications (Essential):
  • High school graduate or equivalent vocational training.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a large facility.
  • Working knowledge of repair and maintenance regarding: health codes; plumbing codes; plant equipment; electrical codes; architectural codes; structural codes; blue prints and wiring/plumbing schematics; building code improvement; mechanical and electrical/safety systems construction; national/local fire codes; proper chemical handling and disposal; power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades; local mechanical codes; OSHA codes and best practices.
  • Knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to the operation of the building.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guest, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Ability to provide legible written communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to accurately compute mathematical calculations and use required measurement tools.
  • Ability to prepare budgets and ensure cost controls.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturer’s literature for installation, preparation, use and upkeep of various materials and products used throughout the property.

Qualifications (Desired):
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Previous guest relations and/or training.
  • Any building trade license/certificate from the state of hotel’s operation.
