Summary/Objective:

Through established curriculum/activities, the Group Leader supervises, organizes, and facilitates programs which promote cultural, physical, intellectual, and social growth. They ensure a supervised, therapeutic, and balanced experience that exposes children to opportunities in areas of wellness, leadership, and fair play. The Group Leader provides supervision to youth who attend AYPYN and participate in programming. They assist in the facilitation and organization of programs/activities with experiential opportunities through indoor and outdoor events/activities. The (8) areas maintained are: Snack and Chat, Weekly Recreation, Activity Clubs, Homework Hour, Computer Lab and Character Development Activities, Special Events, and Community Service Project.


Essential Functions:

1. Complies with all AYPYN and Agency policies, practices, and procedures.

2. Provides constant and thorough supervision of the youth attending AYPYN.

3. Ensures the safety of all youth.

4. Maintains the AYPYN equipment and supplies.

5. Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the space provided by Indian River Middle School.

6. Develops, plans and/or facilitates daily programming/activities.

7. Ensures necessary data is collected (attendance, participation, etc.)

8. Reports any concerns to the After School Programs Coordinator.

9. Other duties as assigned


Work Environment:

Works in a regular office/school environment.

Must be prepared for all seasons and all weather. Encouraged to participate in various physical/recreational activities with the youth.


Physical Demands:

Standing, walking, memory, concentration, sitting, hearing, carrying, speaking, writing, bending, pulling, problem solving, lifting, reaching, kneeling, running, seeing, reading, climbing, pushing, and driving.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Part-time, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 1:00pm-5:30pm and could be subject to change.

Travel:

Some local travel required.


Required Education and Experience:

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required. Prior experience working with children, specifically at-risk youth, is preferred. Strong personal and engagement skills. Must possess the ability to understand/identify individual needs and physical capabilities of youth, to include likes and dislikes. Demonstrates self-motivation skills, the ability to operate in a high intense environment, and the ability to manage several operational tasks simultaneously.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements as mandated by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Mental Health and Office of Children and Family Services along with ongoing clearances and exclusion checks. These requirements are to include employment health requirements, Covid-19 vaccination or exemption, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance and your eligibility to work in the United States. Valid NYS driver’s license required. Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, and Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training will be required following date of hire.
