Essential Job Responsibilities & Duties

Summary

As an entry-level position, multi-craft position maintenance work will be performed under the direction of higher-level mechanics. This position requires the ability to learn and apply the skills as a millwright, mechanic, pipe fitter, carpenter, and painter.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance required
  • Repair plant equipment as needed under the direction of the Maintenance Mechanic Lead and Plant Engineer
  • Performs building and equipment repairs using hand tools and power tools
  • Performs maintenance of equipment, including lubrication, utilizing oil or grease pumps/guns, disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble components and replacement of defective mechanical parts
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) according to the PM program schedules, such as cleaning vents and rebuilding pumps.
  • Utilize Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track PM activities
  • Diagnose and repair pumps, valves, cooling tower, chiller, boil off tank, and other equipment
  • Confined-space entry work
  • Assists with Lock-out/Tag out activities, as directed
  • Understands and assists with the department quality and ISO systems
  • Maintains a clean and orderly working environment
  • Perform all duties within Cal/OSHA safety rules and regulations at all times
  • Work flexible hours and willing to work overtime based on production and engineering demands
  • Meets performance standards for quality, productivity, reliability, initiative, safety, and work relationships

Other Duties

  • Informs Superior or Plant Leadership of problem areas and necessary corrective actions to ensure maximum operation
  • Assists with preparing materials for hazardous shipment, as designated
  • Prioritize work assignments
  • Operates forklift, as required
  • Provides continuous improvement ideas in order to support lean and engineer initiatives
  • Participates in the established plant safety and good housekeeping programs.
  • Completes monthly safety training requirements and participates in assigned subcommittees.
  • Participates in Incident investigations, helps to establish and implement corrective/preventive actions
  • Performs painting, scraping, and cleaning of the work areas, as designated
  • Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

Mainly a manufacturing facility, where, exposed to chemical processing, outdoor work environment, moving mechanical parts, forklifts, yard jockey, heavy pallets, moderate to loud noise level, and air-borne dust, powders, and fumes. While working, will be required to wear various personal protective equipment (e.g., clothing, gloves, goggles, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, respirator, fall protection, disposable coverall suits, etc.).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver License
  • At least 1 year experience as a pipefitter, preferred
  • One or more years of general maintenance experience required
  • Ability to learn and apply the skills as a millwright, mechanic, pipe fitter, carpenter, and painter
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently – verbal and written instructions, SOP’s and other communication
  • Ability to be flexible and possess a willingness to work in all facility areas, as needed
  • Ability to drive or learn to drive a forklift
  • Must not be claustrophobic for confined space entry and must not be afraid of heights for elevated work
  • Strong good documentation practices
  • Experience utilizing hand tools
  • Excellent organization and prioritizing skills
  • General computer literacy and skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Internet navigation
  • Ability to execute the established standard operating and safety procedures
  • Basic math computation skills and ability to use a calculator; knowledge of and competency with using metric measurements
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals contacted in course of work, including outside contractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Other competencies: good judgment, time management, organizational skills, ability to follow instructions, able to work on a team and independently, reliable to follow-through on delegated tasks, strong attention to detail.

Pay Scale

$27.00 - $30.00 Per Hour
