The Laboratory Technical Manager reports to the Laboratory Director. Responsible for technical and quality compliance management of each laboratory department and its staff, Including, but not limited to, assigning, scheduling, coaching staffing on the technological process, and regulatory compliance. Support each department in the technical performance, competency development, and CAP inspection preparation. Ensure all laboratory policies, standard operation procedures, and processes comply with regulations; plan and participate in quality assurance, process improvement, root cause analysis meetings, and other technical and quality compliance projects as assigned.

 


Required Skills
  • Must understand both inpatient and outpatient laboratory operations and physician referral practices.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain relationships with outreach clinics to gain trust and understanding to increase referrals to PIH services.
  • Possess strong quality and technical skills, with the ability to present data logically and meaningfully with limited direction or senior leadership intervention.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creates quality and compliance metrics for all laboratory services and ensures registration, phlebotomy, and testing processes deliver results consistent with established laboratory standards and metrics.
  • Working knowledge of quality control rules, standard validation protocols, and FDA EAU/RUO protocols.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (CLIA, DHS, CAP, Joint Commission, and CIHQ)

Required Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, allied health or relevant area study required by ASCP or AAB Board of Registry.
  • Five (5) or more years of recent laboratory management/Lead experience.
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (Generalist)
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians, and other customers of the medical center.
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
  • Must obtain LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH Only)

Preferred:

  • Technical and quality Management experience in all sections of clinical pathology (CP) and anatomical pathology (AP), including but not limited to Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, and Histology/Cytology section of the laboratory preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in a biological science, business, or healthcare management
