Clinical Data Coordinator - Cardiac Cath Lab - RN required


Job Summary Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior. As a part of ongoing program support for the Cardiac and Vascular Services, the Data Coordinator reviews patient activity and records for quality of patient care in conformance with established criteria and identifies and assists with quality improvement activities. Helps to assure appropriate patient outcomes in a timely and cost-effective manner. Actively initiates, develops, and monitors quality indicators and seeks out opportunities for improvement. Example of Essential Functions: * * Performs retrospective and concurrent review of cardiac and vascular in and outpatient activities in compliance with ACC/MHCC/MIEMSS/CMS guidelines. * Confirms appropriateness and compliance with approved QI screening criteria and documents any deviations. * Performs retrospective and concurrent review of specific focused studies (including procedures, diagnosis and other studies) requested by medical staff, hospital departments and committees. * Reports required data electronically on regular basis as required to ACC/MHCC/MIEMSS/CMS * Flags and documents variances for selected indicators and variables for focused studies, implements indicators and variance coding in database developed for each study. * Assists accreditation agency data collection, reporting and activities. * Identifies patients for internal and external peer review according to predetermined criteria. * Compiles and prepares monthly quality dashboards with metrics for Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology operations meetings. * * Identifies and interprets objective and subjective data found in the medical records. * Compares the identified data to established criteria to determine appropriateness of care. * Abstracts and reports QI information in appropriate format to detect patterns and/or problems in the delivery of care. * Identifies potential areas for change and improvement of the study design and data collection and makes recommendations. * Develops new ongoing quality projects and evaluates the appropriateness of indicators and criteria for quality monitoring. * * Maintains current knowledge of QI principles, techniques, medications, treatments procedures as they relate to patients in Cardiac and Vascular and EP Services * Regularly reviews regulatory agency and/or payer updates to maintain current working knowledge of new developments in the Cardiac and Vascular and EP fields. * Maintains current knowledge of JCAHO, CMS, ACC, MIEMSS, MHCC guidelines and assesses compliance for assigned areas. * Attends and reports on MHCC and NCDR scheduled meetings and educational seminars to keep current with changes in requirements and reporting. * * Attends staff meetings as scheduled 90% of time. * Active participant in Cardiac and Vascular/EP Committees, completes duties as assigned by committee. * Interacts/interfaces with interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists to discuss pertinent issues and follow up of patients. * Willingly accepts additional duties and responsibilities. * Volunteers to serve on taskforces or committees and participates in special projects in the department and/or hospital. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Possesses high degree of prioritization skills. Able to effectively organize time to accomplish daily responsibilities. * Use good judgment in interacting with physicians, nurses, staff, department heads and directors while identifying quality of care issues. * Demonstrates the ability to apply creative problem solving, identify opportunities for improvements and utilize resources effectively. * Possesses basic knowledge of computer software and able to do data entry from PC database applications. * Possesses basic knowledge of medical records coding for Diagnosis Related Group and ICD-9 system and able to retrieve data from patient information system for quality review and reporting to appropriate agencies. Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required: * Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing with a current Maryland license. Bachelor's degree in nursing, information systems or healthcare related field desirable. * Three to five years of hospital acute care experience, preferable in cardiac//critical care/cath lab with current knowledge of procedures, treatments, and medications in those areas. * Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills to evaluate appropriateness of clinical practice, including diagnosis, treatment and interventional procedures to include: coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology implants and peripheral angiography and interventional procedures. Patient Contact Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups: _X_ Performance of job does not require patient contact Physical Demands: Light Work - Lifting up to 20 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes and/or carrying up to 10 pounds, or requiring walking or standing to a significant degree (about six [6] hours a day).
