Department Statement Mail services has two locations on campus, the main Mail Center in the O’connor Campus Center and the Package Annex in the Coop parking lot. Mail Services provides internal mail services for students, faculty, staff, and administration as well as operating a contract station of the United States Postal Service, known as Colgate Station. Colgate Station is the area where all students receive mail and incoming packages. The station provides postal services such as registered mail, certified mail, parcel post, and the sale of all postal supplies. In addition to U.S. mail, University Mail Services distributes official University mail and notices to departments, employees, and students. Outgoing mail and interoffice communications are picked up and delivered to the university daily. This service is designed to provide an efficient internal distribution system for University business correspondence. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Accountabilities Accountable for: Performing duties of postal clerk for campus postal station. Operating postal meter in accordance with postal regulations. Serving as a cashier for campus post office station, dispensing stamps and accepting mail and packages for mail. Picking up and delivering registered, certified, insured, and campus mail on established route. Making deliveries and pick ups to and from U.S. Post Office. Using electronic tracking system for incoming packages and USPS accountable mail. Creating mailing lists for bulk mailings using software. May be required to work in document services as needed. Following all procedures to conduct work activities in a safe manner including but not limited to wearing PPE required for specific duties and safe handling of chemicals as outlined by University policies and/or the supervisor. Immediately reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor and/or Environmental Health and Safety. Requirements Professional Experience/ Qualifications Demonstrated ability to use email and learn basic mail sorting software. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service of postal products to the Colgate community. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment is essential. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with a diverse group of constituents including students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni. Ability to work as a member of a team. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Excel and Banner preferred. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Certifications A current valid driver’s license, in accordance with the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required. Physical Requirements Must have the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, climb stairs and work in inclement weather conditions. Ability to work weekends and overtime, as required.
