Essential Functions:

  • Designs, develops, and supports solutions for delivery of highly complex software applications for assigned solution platforms as a subject matter expert
  • Recommends and supports the technical strategy and alignment of software capabilities with the business objectives of EMC
  • Creates and communicates clear architecture direction for software and product team services, which build upon and improve operational effectiveness and efficiencies
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in projects and corporate initiatives and provides leadership with project updates
  • Ensures projects are correctly planned and executed according to established methodologies and standards
  • Recommends and presents technology applications strategy to meet the current and future needs of respective business areas
  • Leads technology teams and business stakeholders to identify and assess the technology capabilities required to meet or maintain the business and product roadmap
  • Recommends and supports the overall architecture, design, development, and maintenance of assigned solution platforms as a subject matter expert
  • Serves as primary architect within assigned solution platforms establishing approved design patterns and providing consulting services and oversight on engineering strategy within product teams and programs
  • Enables and maintains the organization's effectiveness and efficiency by recommending, delivering, and supporting the organization's information technology infrastructure
  • Works closely with leaders to understand the service requirements of customers and other key stakeholders to recommend improvements and enhance IT strategies and solutions for assigned solution platforms to meet or exceed expectations
  • Designs and recommends software engineering governance policies, procedures, and roles, including proper development techniques and quality management following established SDLC procedures

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or related field, such as information systems or equivalent relevant experience
  • Ten years of experience in progressively responsible roles in software engineering or equivalent experience, including at least four years of experience in defining high level architecture or technical vision for large projects and complex applications
  • Property and casualty insurance experience
  • Experience with management of complex technology platforms preferred
  • Prior experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional understanding of architectural artifacts such as logical, conceptual, and reference diagrams.
  • Excellent knowledge with designing, implementing, and scaling complex core application solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of integration architecture patterns and best practices
  • Exceptional knowledge of programming languages for applicable systems
  • Strong knowledge of insurance principles and insurance company operations
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data solutions preferred
  • Ability to learn new technologies (cloud, on-premise, third party vendor) and their practical applications
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities to analyze complex situations
  • Advanced attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent ability to advise, partner, influence and effectively consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders and project owners
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet deadlines, and monitor the financial budgeting and its impact on the overall projects
  • Advanced leadership and customer service skills
  • Advanced knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and ways to improve them
  • Ability to explore new and different processes, services, technologies, and partnerships to enhance EMC's business
