A Day in the Life of a Referral Coordinator:

The Referral Coordinator provides administrative support to department or clinic. This position is responsible for managing the referral loop, scanning, monthly reports, and participation with department or clinic programs in addition to performing all the Office Service Support job duties.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Greets visitors and checks in patients with accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Executes the pre-registration and pre-authorization process by obtaining necessary documentation from the patient, patient’s physician, and insurance company.
  • Obtains necessary signatures for consent for services and mandatory Medicare documents.
  • Encourages and assists patients in registration of patient portal.
  • Responsible for scheduling patients for in office procedures/office visits and relaying patient data to those who require the information.
  • Places patient appointment reminder calls.
  • Obtains appropriate co-pays and account payments; responsible for cash drawer.
  • Monitors the queues including performing the referral process through Epic and incoming faxes.
  • Monitor referrals to ensure completed process. Verify that the patient has completed the referral and that the results are in the medical record.
  • Oversees timely and accurate scanning into the medical record.
  • Able to access perform and monitor monthly reports.
  • Assist patients with billing questions.
  • Schedule ancillary, hospital, and other procedures.
  • Complete pre-registration insurance and benefit verifications.

  • Proficiently skilled with MS Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and standard office equipment
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate an independent work initiative, sound judgment, and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to demonstrate strong cognitive and problem-solving skills all with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of electronic health records

Here Is What You Will Need:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent certification from an accredited program) or higher degree
    • OR, One (1) or more years of job-related experience
  • One (1) or more years of customer service experience
  • One (1) or more years of clerical experience in medical field

Nice to Have:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent certification form an accredited program) or higher
  • Two (2) or more years of customer service experience
  • Two (2) or more years of clerical experience in the medical field
  • Previous EPIC experience
