Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. As a leader in Mandarin Immersion education, our mission is to nurture our inclusive and diverse community to become empowered, engaged, and outstanding global citizens. We currently serve 766 students across three campuses, and continue to grow our enrollment each year. The School Custodian, under general supervision, performs routine custodial work inside and outside of school and office buildings and keeps building areas in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Facilities Maintenance

• Inspects buildings and grounds

• Performs regular custodial work as needed

• Maintains storage area for equipment, materials and supplies

• Carries out the directions of immediate supervisor

• Sweeps concrete, scrubs linoleum and tile, waxes and polishes linoleum, tile and wood floors

• Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, and other equipment

• Mops, scrubs, sweeps and disinfects restrooms 

• Cleans windows, door glass and drinking fountains

• Cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railings

• Collects trash; empties and cleans waste containers

• Cleans spills and responds to other facilities needs during the school day.

• Moves or rearranges chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment

• Manages the inventory of cleaning supplies and informs the supervisor when supplies are running low

• Disposes trash every day in all classrooms, office rooms, cafeteria, and courtyard

• Operates the locking of the dumpsters according to supervisor’s instruction

• Maintains the security of the campus and locks down the campus at the end of the work

• Attend to any cleaning needs.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Student Supervision

• Maintain the safety and security of the students and campus, foster a safe school culture and model/promote positive behaviors by providing high visibility and interaction throughout the school.
• Monitor students during lunch and breaks inside and outside of buildings.

• Assist with meal time duties, including lunch support and distribution.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working

comparable to that of a custodian.

Preferred

• English fluency

TIME COMMITMENT

185-day school year, Expected work hours are 7:15am-3:45pm.

COMPENSATION

• Pay starting between $24-26 per hour based on experience
• 100% of Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance covered by the school (depending on the selected plan).

• 7 Sick days per full time employee per school year.
