Position Overview:

A rare and exciting opportunity with a mining and chemical processing facility located 50 miles south of Las Vegas, NV. MP Materials owns and operates Mountain Pass, the only integrated Rare Earth mining and processing site in North America. Rare Earths power the modern economy. They are essential components in a wide range of industrial, clean energy and information technology applications. The MP Materials facilities are currently undergoing major and rapid expansion to meet growing global demand.

Position Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Superintendent to oversee and lead the maintenance operations in our industrial chemical plant. This position will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of our plant's equipment, systems, and facilities. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating maintenance activities, managing a team of technicians, and implementing maintenance strategies to support our production goals and operational excellence.

Essential Duties:
  • Provide leadership and direction to the maintenance team, ensuring efficient and effective execution of maintenance activities.
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize maintenance schedules while minimizing impact on production.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance projects, including shutdowns and turnarounds, ensuring timely completion within budget constraints.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Maintain and update maintenance records, work orders, and documentation to ensure accurate historical records and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, fostering a culture of safety among the maintenance team.
  • Identify training needs for maintenance staff and facilitate skill development and training programs.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, track expenses, and provide cost-effective solutions for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure the availability of necessary spare parts and materials for maintenance activities.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis investigations for equipment failures and incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and advancements in maintenance techniques.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in maintenance leadership roles within an industrial chemical plant or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance processes, equipment, and systems, including pumps, compressors, reactors, heat exchangers, and instrumentation.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading maintenance teams, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards relevant to chemical plant operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to address maintenance emergencies or operational needs.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

While performing the responsibilities of the Operations Supervisor, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C. These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the Maintenance Superintendent.
