Summary Description

Under the general direction of the Quality Control Manager, the Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Specialist will have radiography, dimensional inspection and NDE inspection responsibility on assigned projects. Position will work closely with the Quality Control Coordinator and will be responsible for the coordination and resolution of project specific technical matters.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
• To practice, enforce, and maintain records pertaining to Kansas and Federal regulations, under license,
and Company requirements concerning radiation safety and homeland security.
• Interpret RT film for compliance to Code and/or specification requirements, including review of film, issuing
repair sheets and identifying location of defects, RT report write-up (radiographic reader sheets), and presentation of film package to the AI and/or customer Inspectors, when required.
• Learn and remain current with all code rules and requirements.
• Ensure acceptable standards of quality are achieved during fabrication by strict radiographic, visual, dimensional, and NDE inspection of components and products in accordance with drawings, standards, and specifications.
• Perform VT, MT, PT, UT and PMI Inspections as required.
• Respond to Quality questions and/or non-conformances.
• Interface with customer to ensure technical requirements are met.
• Create, distribute, and revise Quality Plans and Inspection/Test Plans.
• Calibrate measuring/testing equipment.
• Perform small repairs, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on inspection equipment
• Report abnormal conditions of NDE equipment to the Quality Control Manager.
• Be involved in the development and revision of NDE procedures.
• Participate in general process improvements and initiatives.

Job Standards

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Education/Experience:
• Requires KDHE Radiation Safety Card or equivalent.
• Associates degree in Nondestructive Examination or a related field or two or more years of related NDE experience required.
• Must be qualified or be capable of qualifying to SNT-TC-1A Level II in RT, & VT
• Experience in MT, PT, and UT strongly preferred.
• Must pass Jaeger 1 eye examination.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge and experience in using a variety of basic NDE equipment, Radiography darkroom equipment and Inspection instruments is required.

Licenses:
• Requires KDHE Radiation Safety Card or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license required

Special Requirements:
• Must be determined to be reliable and trustworthy to work with radioactive materials by passing an independent personal background check.
• Use of protective clothing and/or personal protective equipment as necessary, including ear protection, eyewear and footwear.
• Frequent lifting and carrying.
• Moderate pushing and pulling.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull items in excess of 50 pounds.
• Frequent strength level, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching crawling, reaching, handling, dexterity, feeling, hearing, near-and far-sight acuity, depth perception, field of vision, concentration, judgment, and writing.
• Some travel required.
