Description

The Customer Service Representative (CSR) serves as the hospital's primary contact for all patient billing inquiries. Provides information regarding hospital billing practices, policies, and patient billing statements. Responsible for receiving cash payments, issuing receipts, and posting cash payment data. To ensure timely processing of the patient record the CSR will ensure receipt of all inpatient/outpatient/emergency department patient records; analyze each patient record for completeness as outlined in the policy and procedures. Maintain workflow ensuring that records are scanned into PowerChart in a timely and efficient manner. Complete and process a birth certificate for all newborns, fetal death certificate as needed meeting regulations of the Az. Dept. of Health Services Bureau of Vital Records, and those of the Hospital Paternity Program. Answering of requests for records received by mail, phone, fax, walk-in. Charge entry. Assists in all areas within the department as assigned.

Requirements

  • Accepts inbound phone calls from patients, provider's offices, insurance carriers, etc. within a reasonable timeframe with the intent to resolve the caller's concern immediately.
  • Provides exceptional customer service that aims to improve patient and/or guarantor relations and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Clearly explains charges to customers, reports any charge/payment errors to managerial staff, and resolves any errors within the computer system.
  • Utilizes multiple resources to resolve patient inquiries while on the phone or preparing/reviewing billing correspondence.
  • Collects patient payments, provides account balances, and issues receipts.
  • Reconciles daily cash.
  • Maintains required patient payment records, reports, and files.
  • Understands different payer regulations and can communicate effectively with patients regarding their Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • Cross-trains in other related business office functions to ensure smooth operation of the department
  • Documents any request or concern received via mail, e-mail, telephone, written correspondence, or in person on the patient's account concisely, including future steps for needed resolution in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Performs scanning, filing, data entry, and other duties as assigned.
