Life Skills Specialist - Full Time : The Brain Injury Center - Gonzales

Under the direction of the Program Director, provides services to residential clients as outlined by the Department of Aging and Disability Services for a Type B Assisted Living facility in the state where the facility resides. Is proficient in at least one specialized area of resident care program. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Manages the implementation of home exercise programs and PT, OT, ST protocols, as developed by the licensed therapist.
  • Keeps program management updated on activities within specific area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates competency in the implementation of the treatment plan through completion of scheduled client activities.
  • Participates in behavior modification programs by promoting socially acceptable behavior, using appropriate intervention and documentation.
  • Participates in specialized aspects of patient care, within the scope of skill and training (such as medication administration), under the supervision of the program RN.
  • Competently completes all aspects of patient care including age appropriate techniques for ADLs, mobility, transfers, hygiene, toileting, bathing/showering, hair cutting, recreational activities, and use of adaptive devices.
  • Works directly with assigned clients in order to achieve treatment objectives.
  • Completes accurate records to ensure correct documentation in the appropriate time frames according to Warm Springs’ policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for own personal growth by: Participating in staff meetings and in service educational activities. Participating in client staffings as requested
  • As a team member, participates in the daily staff assignments such as: client activities/outings, meal preparation according to dietary guidelines, patient feeding, laundry, supply ordering, grocery shopping, client rounds, bed changes, and patient bathing
  • Follows all policies governing use of company vehicles and transporting of Post Acute Medical’s clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training: High school diploma/GED.

Experience: Prefer college credit hours related to brain injury, rehabilitation or other human services courses. Prefer interest in neurologic rehabilitation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • May work with various hand tools including, but not limited to, drill, saw, hammer, and/or electric sander.
  • Will at times need to use tape measures and other measuring tools.
  • May be requested to operate other equipment and/or perform duties not related to position at the discretion of supervisor.
  • Ability to accurately report client activities in the prescribed manner noted in the approved behavior plan.
