Job Description

The OUPV ? 6 Pack Captain operates guest boats in and out of the harbor around the marina. The OUPV-6 Pack Captain is Coast Guard certified and extremely safety conscious, should be highly knowledgeable about Lake Powell Resort and Marinas and the surrounding areas and their history; acting as a concierge resource for all guests.

 

 

Job Responsibilities
  • Complete US Department of Transportation and Coast Guard pre and post trip inspections 
  • Operate guest boats in and out of the harbor around the marina 
  • Pilot tour boats on private trips for executive services typically ranging from 1 and a half hours to 6  hours in length
  • Boat Captains are responsible for ensuring the safety of the vessel, passengers and crew
  • Ensure Coast Guard regulations are followed at all times
  • Boat Captains should be highly knowledgeable about Lake Powell Resort and Marinas and the surrounding areas and their histories. They should be able to entertain and provide informative, historical, interactive and factually correct commentary to guests on trips. This knowledge should extend beyond the commentary enabling them to provide accurate answers to a variety of guest questions and inquiries. They should be customer focused - dedicated to continually extending and updating their knowledge and improving their presentation techniques
  • Respond directly to all customer complaints and ensure they are resolved efficiently and immediately in a professional manner which does not negatively impact on the reputation of Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas
  • Fuel and pump out boats
  • Tow disabled boats to marina facilities and supply and remove trash from barges as required
  • Instruct and provide guidance to crew members as needed to ensure vessel is operated in a safe manner
  • Coordinate daily operations with Marina Office
  • Report all infractions of federal, state, county, coast guard laws etc? pertaining to vessel?s operation to management
  • May be required to work directly with the US Coast Guard on inspections, work plans and other areas of the marine field
  • Maintain vessel log books
  • May be required to issue internal fuel sales memos
  • Must be prepared to work a varied schedule according to business needs - which includes weekends 
  • Identify maintenance and safety issues and take the correct steps to correct them
  • Must be honest, dependable and forthright, with the ability to confidently work without direct supervision
  • Report to work in proper uniform
Qualifications
  • Must be fluent in the English language in speaking, reading and writing
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess a OUPV ? 6 Pack USCG License or higher and be proficient in boat maintenance and navigation
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of coast guard laws and safety regulations
  • Must be able to demonstrate navigation of Lake Powell

Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and participate in the random drug/alcohol testing pool
