Job Summary

The Payroll Practitioner is responsible for processing payroll bi-weekly, including data entry, uploading time records, updating HRIS records concerning new hires, salary and tax information, time off, and terminations.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations, Northwest policies, and procedures, and with third party vendors and agencies
  • Identify and resolve compliance related issues, and employee payroll, tax, and related issues, and tax entity issues
  • Keep abreast of local, state, and federal regulations / amendments
  • Implement system changes to reflect government garnishments
  • Perform data entry
  • Process new hires and terminations, and terminated employees
  • Produce specific reports as requested, and year end documents including W-2s
  • Manage personal workload / workflow
  • Complete salary verification for employees
  • Create job codes, process changes, additions, and benefits including AD life, travel, and vacation
  • Assist new team members in attaining knowledge of function
  • Complete payment and filing of Federal/State/Local taxes bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly
  • Process timecard information into HRIS system, and payroll (regular and supplemental)
  • Monitor documentation for various leaves of absence
  • Print, utilize machine to seal, and distribute pay stubs
  • Coordinate and input salary adjustments, merit increases, retroactive pay, etc.
  • Complete new employee details and setting up files, and salary adjustment notifications
  • Input and monitor employee garnishments
  • Process vendor checks, distributions, and deposits
  • Reconcile payroll accounts
  • Generate reports/reconciliation for tax payment
  • Communicate with employees pertaining to their pay detail
  • Compile and distribute performance reviews
  • Monitor appraisal records and documentation
  • Provide quarterly reporting on past due reviews
  • Minimize departmental non payroll costs
  • Maximize technology tools available
  • Recommend improvements to procedures, and service and delivery enhancements
  • Ensure total document/data integrity

Education + Experience preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5-6 years of payroll processing experience
  • 3-5 years of customer service experience
