Steam Rack Operator

Job Summary & Essential Functions:

Operate steam rack to clean interior and exterior of freight cars. Hydrostatically test tanks and hoppers.All work performed must meet current AAR and quality assurance guidelines and requirements.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Steam and chemically clean freight car interiors and exteriors to remove a variety of commodities, linings, or coatings
• Make connections necessary to drain, steam, wash and flush freight cars, coils and components.
• Regulate pumps and valves as necessary to clean and test cars. Test coils where specified
• Interpret job work orders to perform required repairs
• Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
• Ensure AAR quality assurance standards are met
• Follow all safety rules and procedures
• Interact with crew members and supervisors in a team environment
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner
• Comply with the established safety policies and support continuing awareness for safety
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Operate equipment to clean cars (gamma jets, steam systems, flares, etc)
• Ability to check cars for clean with proper equipment as needed (test meters, draeger tubes, etc)
• Must be able to climb and work from ladders and work in confined spaces
• Eye-Hand coordination
• Attention to details

Required Experience / Education / Training / Certifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is desired
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Prior industrial experience is a plus
