Job Summary

As a Lead Journey Mechanic, you will oversee the Maintenance Main Shop, in conjunction with Maintenance Management. You are responsible for assigning and prioritizing maintenance work, monitoring team activity, and ensuring all activity is in alignment with department standards and procedures.

Essential Duties
    Oversees the work and creates work orders of maintenance employees to ensure established standards, policies and procedures for work performance, and safety and security requirements are followed.
  1. Provide technical assistance to troubleshoot problems and coach employees, when needed. Conduct job-specific, hands-on training for all new maintenance employees and perform refresher or new equipment/procedure trainings.
  2. Assist with the scheduling of mechanics. Prioritize work assignments to meet operational needs and ensure that all shifts meet requirements for timely servicing of buses and other Community Transit vehicles.
  3. Maintain the quality and quantity of work. Perform periodic quality control inspections to ensure mechanics are meeting expectations and monitor quantity of work performed by individuals. Notify management of any performance or work issues.
  4. Monitor the proper functioning and reliability of all equipment used by mechanics. Request required repairs and maintenance.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible journey level experience in vehicle maintenance including mechanical repair on diesel powered equipment.
  • Possession of a complete set of heavy equipment tools and a roll away toolbox.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire, a Washington State driver's license and a CDL license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed.
  • Must be able to work any shift assigned to meet the needs of the agency, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Health and safety hazards related to servicing vehicles and the proper precautions and use of safety equipment
  • Principles, practices, materials, and operating procedures pertinent to vehicular maintenance and inspections.
  • Operation and the maintenance function of heavy-duty diesel equipment.
  • Computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.

Working Conditions

90-100% of your work will be performed in an office environment and requires you to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. You will be required to move throughout and between different office buildings. Given the nature of this job, you may also be exposed to automotive fumes, carbon monoxide, odors, and dust and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work in all weather conditions

This position is considered safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under both DOT and Community Transit authority.
