About the Role:

The role of Splicing Technician is responsible for installation and maintaining fiber optic cables as needed and when required. A Splicing Technician is also responsible for providing technical support in designing and testing the fiber optics. They also look into existing laser and optical fiber devices and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve, repair, and install fiber optics systems and ensure that they work properly.
  • Examine and replace faulty and old fiber optic cables and organize scheduled maintenance routines.
  • Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas.
  • Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections to make sure that faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance.
  • Execute premises cabling and take care of the underground and underwater cabling requirements.
  • Keep track of the signal strength of different devices such as television and telephone to provide adequate performance.
  • Formulate and maintain system records and system designs.
  • Assemble equipment according to design specifications.
  • Performs tasks associated with the prepping and splicing of fiber lines.
  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle-check fluids, clean and organize vehicle.
  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment.
  • Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools.
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.
  • Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Key Qualifications:

  • HSD, or equivalent education, is required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience as fiber technician, fiber splicer, or similar role
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CFOT, CPCT, or CFOS certification, preferred.
  • OSHA or CPR certification, preferred.

Additional Notes:

  • This position may require being on-call. Employees will respond to emergency calls between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. This position may require weekend work, night work, and/or overnight travel.
  • This position does require travel to different counties throughout Indiana.
  • This position is performed in the field both outdoor and indoor conditions daily.
