Primary Purpose:
To safely and efficiently prepare a variety of food items.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification/Experience:
High School diploma/GED preferred
3 + food preparation experience
Current Texas Food Handlers certification
Current CPR & Basic First Aid certifications
Valid Texas Driver License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to multitask
High level of understanding & implementation of food safety standards
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Food Prep
Wash, cut, chop, and prepare food items for immediate cooking or for storage;
Maintain cleanliness of food utensils and preparation areas
Cooking
Using a variety of kitchen utensils and cooking vessels, cook, fry, boil, and/or bake menu items to the correct temperature and specifications;
Maintain cleanliness of all cooking materials and workspaces;
Maintain correct temperature of prepared food items;
Correctly store raw, dry, and prepared foodstuff
Administrative Duties
Oversee the kitchen inventory by creating and maintaining itemized lists of food items and supplies;
Place orders for food items and supplies needed, prepare requisitions, and keep track of inventory
Prepare menus as needed
Assist in the budgeting process
Other Responsibilities:
When needed, assist the cashier in maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area;
Observe and report any unsafe, hazardous, or dangerous conditions to supervisor immediately
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Working Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Hot and cold cooking vessels and equipment, sharp instruments used in cutting and chopping, stoves, microwaves
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Fast, repetitive hand motions including frequent finger and wrist flexion and extension; frequent reaching overhead
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
Environment: Indoors with artificial and natural light, high heat areas, cold storage areas, grease, water, cleaning and sanitizing agents, fast-paced
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, multitask under pressure
