Job Description
Job Summary:
The Bio-Refinery Machinist will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, trouble-shooting, and capex work. This position requires journey-level skill and is required to work with other maintenance crafts, Operations and Technical groups. This position involves working in and around operating units as well as shop work. This position performs maintenance in all areas of the plant on a scheduled cadence or in emergency situations including call outs. Strong safety culture is a must and adherence to safety policies, plans and requirements is a must. This is a Safety Sensitive Position.
Essential Functions:
Maintain, repair, laser align, and perform preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, turbines, compressors, blowers/fans, etc. in both field and shop environments
Teardown and rebuild API, ANSI pumps, compressors, air coolers, steam turbines, gearboxes, etc.
Troubleshoot and identify problems and issues with equipment
Interpret tolerances and dimensions from drawings, sketches, & engineering documents
Ensure quality control and testing is completed on repairs and overhauls
Assist in developing maintenance, reliability and preventive maintenance procedures and training materials for rotating equipment
Set-up and operate machine tools to manufacture and machine parts to specifications using Lathes, Mills, grinders, etc.
Enter condition reports into CMMS system
Balance rotating assemblies
Assist in developing maintenance and preventive maintenance procedures and training materials for rotating equipment.
Adhere to Company procedures, policies and industry standards
Perform preventative maintenance activities by identifying and correcting potential issues
Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned and trained
Required Skills/Abilities:
Safety Awareness: Ability to recognize and identify potential hazards.
Must hold a Driver License with excellent driving record and be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug screening
Ability to operate industrial forklift, man lifts, overhead cranes, lathes, power equipment, etc. (certification where applicable)
Able to use precision measuring equipment for the inspection and manufacture of rotating equipment parts. (Micrometers, Calipers, etc.)
Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurement
Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
Good verbal and written communication skills
Be able to respond to emergency calls as needed including weekend and evenings
Must be available for call outs including weekends, holidays and nights
Ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of Company personnel
Basic understanding of HSSE requirements including confined space entry, lock out/tag out, fall protection, etc.
Knowledge of general carpentry and repair
Ability to use hand tools and power tools
Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Vocational school; or apprenticeship preferred
10 years of experience in rotating equipment repairs / maintenance
5+ years Journeyman level Machinist experienced preferred
Refinery, petrochemical or chemical facility a plus
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pass a physical test of pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs
Prolonged periods of standing and walking
Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
Must be able to climb ladders and or stairs on tanks, vessels and structures; wear respirator; work around equipment containing high pressures and temperatures and various chemicals
Must be physically able to bend, or crawl into awkward spaces
Wear fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment, such as SCBA, steel-toe shoes and ear and eye protection
