THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is currently looking for a positive and organized Civil Engineer (Transportation) to join our team! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Civil Engineer (Transportation), you will participate and support the design squad in the development and delivery of various types of construction and right of way plans. You will assist the supervisor with all phases of work to ensure operations are conducted efficiently and effectively, as well as apply engineering practices to make sound decisions while completing work assignments. You will be responsible for performing a wide variety of design duties regarding new construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, widening, drainage improvements, and guide rail rehabilitation. You will conduct field reviews to determine plan needs with respect to drainage problems, pavement template, elevation conditions, and any other physical conditions that need to be taken into account. Additionally, you will perform quality control checks of all plans, prepare cost estimates, check all relevant mathematical computations, and complete all forms relevant to plan preparation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
