POSITION DETAILS

As a Dining Server in our senior living facility, your primary responsibility is to provide excellent dining service to residents in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner. You will be responsible for ensuring that residents have an enjoyable and pleasant dining experience while adhering to dietary restrictions and individual preferences. Your role is crucial in creating a positive atmosphere and fostering a sense of community within the senior living environment.

This is a perfect position for high school students looking for an after-school job.

Hours:

  • 4:00p-Close (6:00-6:30p)
  • Flexible schedule
  • Every other weekend
  • Occasional Holidays

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Dining Service: Take food and beverage orders, serve meals, and assist residents with menu choices. Ensure timely delivery of meals and provide prompt table service. Clear tables, sanitize dining areas, and reset tables for the next meal.
  • Customer Service: Interact with residents in a friendly and respectful manner, addressing their needs and concerns. Provide personalized attention, catering to individual dietary requirements, and accommodating special requests.
  • Menu Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the daily menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and portion sizes. Explain menu options, answer questions, and make recommendations based on residents' preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • Dietary Restrictions: Work closely with the dietary department to understand residents' specific dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences. Ensure that meal orders are accurately communicated, and appropriate food substitutions are made when necessary.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times. Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining areas, including tables, chairs, service stations, and equipment. Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the culinary team, kitchen staff, and other dining servers to ensure smooth operation of the dining services. Communicate residents' feedback and requests effectively to the appropriate parties.
  • Resident Engagement: Foster a welcoming and inclusive dining environment by engaging in friendly conversations with residents. Build relationships, learn their preferences, and create a positive dining experience that promotes socialization and a sense of community.
  • Special Events: Assist with the planning and execution of special events and themed meals within the senior living facility. Decorate dining areas, set up buffet stations, and provide additional support as needed during these events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Time Management: Possessing effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities efficiently. Maintaining a smooth flow of service by ensuring prompt and timely delivery of meals while managing various requests and demands.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Working well within a team environment, communicating and collaborating effectively with other dining servers, culinary staff, and supervisors. Assisting colleagues when needed, coordinating efforts to provide seamless service, and contributing to a positive work atmosphere.
  • Adaptability: Being flexible and adaptable in a dynamic and evolving senior living environment. Adjusting to changes in dining schedules, menu items, and resident preferences while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.

  • Hygiene and Safety: Following strict hygiene and safety protocols in handling food, maintaining cleanliness in the dining area, and adhering to food safety regulations. Identifying and promptly reporting any safety hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Empathy and Compassion: Displaying empathy, compassion, and understanding towards seniors, recognizing their individual needs and treating them with dignity and respect. Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that promotes socialization and a sense of belonging.

These core competencies are essential for a dining room server in a senior living setting to provide exceptional service, enhance residents' dining experience, and contribute to a positive and supportive community environment.

Qualifications

Work Environment:

Retirement community providing service to senior adults in independent, assisted and skilled nursing community.

Physical Requirements:

Walking, standing, bending and sitting for extended periods. Minimal 25-pound lifting requirement.

Equipment/tools/machines used in performance of this job: Robot AI Server Assistant

Education or Degree Required: Enrolled in High School or High School Diploma Must be at least 15 years of age.

Related Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in food service or customer service roles is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with seniors.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift trays or equipment as required.
