THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, your main responsibility will be to fix and restore various types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors. Additionally, you will perform maintenance and repairs on equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. You will also handle tasks such as replacing shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, brakes, and other components. Furthermore, you will balance wheels, check alignment, make minor body repairs, and conduct overhauls and tests on alternators and electrical parts of vehicles and equipment. Moreover, you will implement a preventive maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and parts. You will also carry out automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes. Additionally, you will repair and replace engine sub-assemblies, adjust cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning components, and maintain fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Furthermore, you will repair or rebuild construction or shop equipment. Moreover, you will perform official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, ensuring compliance with specifications. You will conduct road tests, complete inspection stickers, and maintain State Inspection Records and related paperwork. Additionally, you will utilize diagnostic equipment and procedures to identify equipment problems and determine appropriate repair methods, procedures, tools, and parts. Lastly, you will repair and maintain motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers and trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles. If necessary, you will report any missing parts or broken equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Rotating schedule due to 24/7 operations, shifts may vary seasonally or due to weather

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.


Conditions of Employment:

  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
