A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as Solid Ground's Director of Operations is serving as a member of the Leadership team and advising leadership on improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of Solid Ground. The Director of Operations creates policies and procedures to support internal capacity of a mission driven organization. This position is responsible for office and space management, technology and telecommunications support, electronic and paper records, materials, security and safety, vendor and contractor relationships. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Serving as the key liaison between Solid Ground and the contracted Human Resources and technology firm.
  • Evaluating, improving, and implementing Solid Ground's IT infrastructure, including new technologies as needed, hardware and software systems for communication, data, and SharePoint to support key capabilities for future growth.
  • Managing Solid Ground's infrastructure and system maintenance, including security, telephone system, cleaning, office supplies, etc.
  • Overseeing the risk management function for the organization and ensuring adequate coverage for professional and liability insurances, including cybersecurity.
  • Overseeing the relationship with East Metro Place's contracted property management firm.
  • Working with various contractors to ensure a healthy and safe facility for staff and residents of East Metro Place.
  • Organizing, leading, and facilitating a Safety Committee.
  • Developing positive working relationships with neighbors, local law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and oversee compliance with the organizations' record retention policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with state and federal contract requirements for HUD.
  • Providing leadership on administrative functions with the goal of continuing to develop and improve effective and efficient systems to advance Solid Ground's mission.
  • Overseeing current vendor relationships and developing new vendor relationships with the BIPOC community.
  • During East Metro Place construction, serving as leadership team liaison with the owner's representative, architect, and general contractor.
  • This position supervises the Office Assistant, Intake Coordinator, and our Data Specialist.

Who You Are

  • You hold an associate degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience; bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • It is highly preferable if you have previous experience in facilities management.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the non-profit sector or have comparable skills and experience.
  • You have the ability to work effectively and respectfully with coworkers, program participants (clients), and key stakeholders who are diverse with respect to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and religion.
  • You take initiative and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff at all levels in the organization.
  • You demonstrate excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently and accurately.
  • You possess strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You demonstrate an analytical approach to improving efficiencies and monitoring projects.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • You have the ability to create effective and efficient policies and procedures.
  • You have the ability to train staff and volunteers on policies and systems.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Solid Ground's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
