This role is 1st Shift, 12 (twelve) hour shift in a 3+3+1 schedule and based at our new Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in Bardstown, KY.

What the Role Is

The Supervisor/Lead Distillery Maintenance Technician will be responsible for leading, coordinating and performing all aspects of distillery maintenance centered on the non-negotiables of safety, quality and employee engagement. This includes responsibility for by-products, wastewater pre-treatment plant, and other areas as required. The Lead will lead and coach onsite maintenance team. This position will be cross trained to support all functional areas of the distillery in an empowered/self-directed environment. It will drive and support efficient, highly productive operations in a demanding setting.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

  • Lead, plan and perform the preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of distillery process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment. This includes effective distribution of employees, outside resources and materials.
  • Lead and perform complex maintenance duties including mechanical/electrical and PLC troubleshooting, welding, and preventative maintenance.
  • Provide support in leading self-directed work teams to ensure a focus on collaboration and shared accountability for the overall success of the maintenance team.
  • Leadership, oversight, and coaching of maintenance team, using independent judgment including but not limited to exercising leadership and responsibility for scheduling, time management, training, work priorities, assignment etc., as needed to secure the success of the team.
  • Cross-train to perform all maintenance technician tasks with high proficiency and efficiency.
  • Manage creation of standards and processes such as: planning, budget control and attainment, stock room control, CMMS utilization.
  • Monitor the creation of max and min stock levels for parts by equipment type to ensure availability and proper storage. Work with vendors to keep stock available for timely repairs.
  • Evaluate work performance of team members, using independent judgment based upon observation and evaluation of individual and team contributions.
  • Liaise with other distillery management and other team members to ensure all safety, quality, and productivity KPIs are met or exceeded. 
  • Partner with other distillery management and other team members to foster a Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement atmosphere.  
  • Create a positive and informative guest experience by engaging with visitors, business partners, and key stakeholders to share pertinent information regarding the art and science of distillation, knowledge of Heaven Hill’s various mash bills, and diverse product portfolio.
  • Implement and sustain the Heaven Hill Production System (Lean Manufacturing). 
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of safety, cleanliness and performing housekeeping (5S) duties within the assigned area and throughout the entire facility. Including but not limited to upkeep of trash, cleaning work areas and break rooms, etc.
  • Assist in capital planning, project execution, scheduling, and budgeting.

Who You Are…

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance or related degree, Journeyman’s certification in Industrial Maintenance or equivalent years’ work-related experience, specifically in manufacturing required
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a maintenance/engineering supervisor role, preferably in distilled spirits or related industry required
  • Successful completion of Bennett Mechanical Test required
  • Previous experience maintaining and troubleshooting the following types of equipment: boiler operations, chilled water systems, material air/mechanical conveying systems, pumps, motors, valves, positioners, instrumentation, etc. preferred
  • Ability to provide leadership and work in a cross-functional, self-directed work team with keen focus on improving every day and working together to win.
  • Critical thinking skills. Using logic and reasoning to lead others and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems using his/her independent judgment.  
  • Flexibility to learn and maintain cutting-edge technology.
  • Ability to develop new and innovative maintenance techniques and processes.
  • Analytical skills, particularly with data collection and analysis to present solutions 
  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Public speaking experience and excellent presentation abilities.
  • Technical writing experience developing standard operating procedures and other written correspondence. 
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft systems such as Outlook, Excel, etc.  
  • Instrumentation & Controls Background Preferred
  • Electrical & Mechanical knowledge – knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
