THE SAN MATEO COUNTY EVENT CENTER IS SEEKING EXPERIENCED BARTENDERS/FOOD SERVICE CASHIERS TO WORK SPECIAL EVENTS

The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility which hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair and operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing as well as a full-service catering and food service operation.  The Bartender responsible for the mixing, pouring and serving of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and providing superior service to patrons during select events. The Food Service Cashier works in our concessions department with various roles including concessions cashier, barista and coffee shop support. 


This position provides bartender and concessions services during select events on an as needed basis. This is not a full-time position and this position does not have a regular work schedule. You will be offered shifts as they become available based on our event schedule. 


Rate of pay:  $27.00 per hour 


Must have current Responsible Beverage Server (RBS) certification and Food Handlers Certificate (ServSafe).


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner and takes customer orders.
  • Mixes and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control.
  • Check guests for proper identification. Detect and act upon guest inebriation as trained.
  • Abide by all state, federal and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Inputs orders into register at the point of sale, collect cash or process credit card payments and maintain accountability for all beverages served. 
  • Maintains proper and adequate set-up and clean-up of the bar on a daily basis. This includes placement of portable bars, requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments and produce.
  • Act as cashier operating the POS/cash register in multiple locations to ensure an accurate and smooth flow of customer traffic while providing excellent customer service. 
  • Function as Barista making specified drinks as ordered by customers with an emphasis on Starbucks style recipe drinks.
  • Provide assistance in distributing food and beverage items to customers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be reliable and punctual for all scheduled shifts.
  • Extensive knowledge of classic cocktails, liquors and beers.
  • Must have experience handling cash and credit card transactions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work fast and under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with management, co-workers, clients and customers using principles of good customer service.
  • Must be well groomed and adhere to proper dress code.
  • Work long and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and one year experience as bartender; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have current Responsible Beverage Server (RBS) certification.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to grease, smoke, fumes, solvents, chemicals, heat and sharp objects.  Must be able to speak, hear and see. Vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
