Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the electrical design of industrial facilities and solve complex problems while working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary delivery team. You will also be involved in projects from their preliminary design all the way through startup support, and act as the electrical subject-matter expert. Other opportunities such as guiding and mentoring junior engineers while expanding on and fine-tuning your technical and project management skills are also some of the things you can expect as the Senior Electrical Engineer.
- Analyze, interpret, develop, and examine one-line diagrams, grounding and area classification plans, control panel layouts and billing of materials, lighting plans and details, P&IDs, PLC & DCS wiring diagrams, medium (15kV -600V) & low voltage (600V & below) motor schematics, and cable tray and conduit routing plans
- Familiarize yourself with client requirements, methods, and expectations
- Organize project deliverables, deadlines, and speak to interdisciplinary needs per project among the engineering team
- Complete electrical engineering calculations and documentation packages, plans, sections, and details for electrical design projects parallel to industry, client, and company standards
- Have extensive working knowledge of relevant codes: NFPA 70, 70E, 30, 58, and 497, NEMA, API 500 & 540, IEEE and others as required
- Speak with clients and electrical utilities confidently on new or upgraded service installations
- Partner with mechanical, civil, process, and structural engineers to identify potential conflicts and/or efficiencies with the electrical design
- Support business development opportunities and assist in marketing efforts (proposal preparation, scope, budget, etc.)
- Complete contractor construction submittal reviews and request for information documents and general electrical design activities for industrial facilities
- Coordinate with equipment vendors in place of clients to review and approve specifications
- Continuously seek improvement for yourself and for the department
- Travel within the United States 15% to 20% for site investigations, design reviews, and construction support
What Makes You a Good Candidate
- 6+ years of experience in the fulfillment of projects, including project development from concept through completion, including estimating, start-up, and commissioning for clients in the industrial sector
- Relevant experience includes industrial environments such as oil and gas, refinery, pulp and paper, or other
- Be comfortable functioning in industrial facilities and around the equipment therein
- Be adept in recognizing power distribution and control equipment
- BS in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution required
- PE (Professional Engineer) is desired; must be working toward or be willing to obtain PE
- Working knowledge of PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), Soft Starters and Power Distribution Systems
- Ability to perform voltage drop, cable tray fill, cable tray sizing, conduit sizing and equipment sizing calculations
- Working knowledge of protection devices such as power circuit breakers MCCBs, fuses, and relay protection
- Understanding of wiring design, grounding, and hazardous area classification
- Experience with power system modeling software such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower
- Experience estimating heavy industrial electrical engineering and construction costs
- Demonstrated ability to excel with minimum supervision and strong desire to learn and develop knowledge and skills
- Strong background providing a combination of both project management and engineering skills
- Experience in mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance
- Strong written & oral communication, writing, and presentation skills and use of tools such as Bluebeam, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
