JOB SUMMARY:

Performs skilled carpentry, plumbing and painting related work in County buildings to insure all buildings are maintained properly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds and repairs office furniture such as cabinets, shelves, counter tops, tables and bulletin boards; repairs original carpentry work in County buildings to include replacing or repairing cornish boards, deckings, fascia, etc.
  • Replaces or repairs broken doors, locks, windows, and roofs of public buildings.
  • Builds partitions; hangs and finishes sheet rock; patches holes in walls and doors; paints offices, walls, doors, etc.
  • Installs, replaces, and repairs plumbing fixtures and pipes in County buildings.
  • Estimates cost of repairs and work orders; orders necessary supplies to complete work orders.
  • Inspects buildings routinely for needed repairs. Maintains record of maintenance schedules and maintenance performed.
  • Assists electrician and equipment specialist as needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Ability to read and write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Two years carpentry and building maintenance experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

Licenses and Certifications:

None.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of roofing and basic methods and techniques of plumbing and carpentry.
  • Knowledge of various paints and application techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of local building and plumbing codes.
  • Skill in reading building plans.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in coordinating work activities.
  • Skill in furniture repair.
  • Ability to perform routine manual labor.

Physical Ability: Essential functions frequently require the ability to move oneself about the job site by walking; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; push or pull items; repetitively use hands/arms; grasp items; and move/transport items weighing up to 50lbs. Incumbents frequently must be able to concentrate on tasks; examine/observe details; and discriminate colors. Additionally, essential functions frequently require incumbents to maintain stamina during the workday.


Essential functions occasionally require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; move oneself by crawling on hands and knees; reach overhead; position oneself by crouching/kneeling; repetitively use legs; and move/transport items weighing between 51lbs and 100lbs. Incumbents occasionally must be able to think analytically; handle stress and emotion; remember names and other details; make decisions; and adjust to change. Additionally, essential functions occasionally require incumbents to work irregular hours (nights/weekends); attend work related meetings or trainings; handle confidential information; meet deadlines; operate equipment; stay organized; and use math/calculations.

Sensory Ability: Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather; extreme hot or cold temperatures; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease and oil; and wet, slippery floors and surfaces. Incumbents frequently work alone.

Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from biological, chemical, electrical, and sharp objects/tools hazards; falling from high or exposed places, and falling objects; constricted spaces; extreme noise; and vibration. Incumbents must occasionally work with others.

Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
