CAMP CANTON / CANTON ACTIVITY CREW

Seasonal

Pay Rate: $15.91 per hour

REQUIRED AVAILABILITY:

Monday through Friday

7:00am - 6:00pm (Camp Canton) and 9:00am - 6:00pm (Canton Activity Crew)

Occasional evenings and weekends for special events

May 20 - August 23 (Camp Canton) and May 20 - August 9 (Canton Activity Crew)

JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for leading and supervising activities in schools, playgrounds, athletic fields, community centers, senior centers, and/or recreation sites. This position may supervise other Township employees.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)

  • Responsible for assisting with the safe transportation of program participants to assigned locations.
  • Presents a professional image, in person and by telephone.
  • Responsible for the detection and reporting of property and equipment defects.
  • Ensures safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures are followed by the public and employees.
  • Responsible for enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures, and policies.
  • Maintains accurate program, activity, and equipment records.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the recreation site and facility.
  • Responsible for responding to, communicating, and documenting emergency situations and incidents, including, but not limited to, First Aid, CPR, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events.
  • Plans, organizes, monitors, and conducts recreational activities for participants of assigned programs.
  • Prepares facilities and equipment for planned daily programs and events.
  • Assists in the planning, supervision, and coordination of participants and activities assigned.
  • Assists in the coordination of set up, tear down, and clean up of programs and events.
  • Responsible for facility and equipment appearance and cleanliness.
  • Supervises and monitors participants in a variety of recreation areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Must be able to perform and possess Basic First Aid and CPR (Adult & Infant) certifications within 60 days of employment; opportunity for certification will be provided by the employer.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Must be educated in Diabetic Care and Monitoring within one year of employment; opportunity for in-service training and certification will be provided by the employer.
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities.
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements, and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting, and staff availability.
  • Knowledge of the facilities, equipment, and supplies required by the assigned area.
  • Prior experience working with youth of varying ages is preferred.

  • This is a seasonal job opportunity. A seasonal position may be scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for a limited duration of time (no more than 6 calendar months) on an at-will basis. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on workload and availability.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as seasonal employees.
