Position Summary

Aircraft Pilot - LTE

This position's primary purpose is to perform a variety of resource management activities supporting the Department's Aeronautics program as needed. These responsibilities include forest fire detection and suppression; detection of game and fish and other law enforcement violations; and environmental protection activities, including monitoring and survey work. The position also performs reconnaissance flights for a variety of natural resources management activities. This position supports the FTE (full-time) pilots and their workload at any of the five hangar locations around the state.

Successful applicant will have the following work locations available: Siren or Rhinelander

80% Goal A: Resource Management Activities

A1. Fly, observe and relay information necessary for the detection and suppression of forest fires, game and fish violations, and environmental protection violations and monitoring activities.

A2. Conduct surveys of natural resource phenomenon such as fishing pressure, recreational facility use, wildlife populations, and monitoring endangered species.

A3. Conduct reconnaissance flights for forest management purposes such as type mapping, forest health surveys, Spongy Moth suppression, and timber sale activities.

A4. Take aerial photographs to be used as evidence in court and as permanent DNR records.

10% Goal B: Maintenance of Flying Program

B1. Maintain currency of flight proficiency in day, night and low-level flight in assigned department aircraft commensurate with Federal Aviation Administration and DNR regulations and requirements.

B2. Demonstrate pilot proficiency during periodic check flights and written examinations.

B3. Attend training sessions, in-services and other relevant learning venues to build and maintain pilot proficiency and technical competence levels.

10% Goal C: Drone Program

C1: Maintain FAA Part 107 currency.

C2: Demonstrate proficiency operating the department's fleet of drones including, but not limited to, staying up to date with equipment, technology, and operating systems

Salary Information

This position pays $24.52 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-63. For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Current commercial pilot certificate from the FAA.

* Class rating for single-engine land plus instrument rating.

* Minimum of 700 hours pilot-in-command time, 50 hours night time, 50 hours instrument time, and 100 hours cross country time.

* Must possess a current and valid FAA first or second-class medical certificate without limitations that would preclude the ability of the pilot to perform all DNR missions.

* Pass pre-employment check ride with chief pilot or designee.

* Tailwheel endorsement

* Multi-engine Rating Certification
