Job Title: Program Area Director

Location: Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, California

Job Summary: The Program Area Director is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing a designated area or program within the camp. This role involves managing staff, coordinating activities, maintaining facilities and equipment, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all campers.

Season Dates:

  • Director Week: 6/9/24 - 6/15/24
  • Training Week: 6/16/24 - 6/22/24
  • Week 1: 6/23/24 - 6/29/24
  • Week 2: 6/30/24 - 7/6/24
  • Week 3: 7/7/24 - 7/13/24
  • Week 4: 7/14/24 - 7/20/24
  • Week 5: 7/21/24 - 7/27/24

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of a specific program area within the camp (I.e. Handicraft, Scout Skills, STEM, etc.).
  • Manage and supervise area staff, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
  • Develop and implement program curriculums and activities that are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with scouting values.
  • Ensure all activities and operations comply with BSA guidelines, safety standards, and camp policies.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment related to the area, ensuring they are safe, clean, and in good working order.
  • Coordinate with other directors and staff to integrate area activities into the overall camp program.
  • Handle administrative duties such as record keeping, budget management, and reporting as required.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for both campers and staff.
  • Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to the area or its operations.
  • Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Orange County Boy Scouts of America.
  • Submit an end of summer report

Qualifications:

  • Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
  • Proven experience in camp program management, preferably in a Scouting or outdoor education setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with BSA programs and safety guidelines is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger camp leadership team.

Work Environment:

  • Seasonal, full-time position during the camp's operating season.
  • Job involves a combination of administrative work and outdoor program supervision.
  • Physical requirements depend on the area of responsibility but may include lifting, standing for long periods, and engaging in various outdoor activities.
