Job Summary:

Sanford Federal, Inc. is looking to hire an unarmed security guard to perform security services at Blythe Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) 1273 West Hobson Way Blythe, CA 92225

Qualification:

• Must have experience working in Security.
• Must complete a background check.

· Must possess a license or certificate through the California Bureau of Security & Investigate Services (Unarmed Security Guard l or ll)

Duties:

All on-site Security Guards fall under this category, except supervisors and special assignment guards. Services shall include but may not be limited to the following:

a. Guards are restricted from using Force while providing Security Guard services at all Loma Linda VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The Security Guards primary function will be to observe, document and report.

b. Security Guards are restricted from intervening in domestic disputes. In the case of a domestic dispute Security Guards are to call the local Law Enforcement Officials prior to calling VA Police Dispatch (909) 583-6299.

c. Notify VA Police (Dispatch) upon arrival and prior to departure via a telephone within the assigned VA facility.

d. Ensure all entrances are clear of hazards.

e. Be watchful for vandalism to buildings, equipment and/or government vehicles.

f. Document and notify VA Police, and/or designated VA staff member, upon discovery of a criminal act or violation of VA Policy.

g. Document and report suspicious activity to VA Police and/or designated VA staff official.

h. Render assistance to employees, patients, and visitors. Security Guards may relay guidance and or instructions provided by the VA Police to VA employees, patients and visitors during fires, storms, earthquakes, or other incidents when directed by VA Police.

i. Maintain a physical presence by conducting and documenting hourly random patrols of assigned parking lots, buildings and around the assigned VA Facility.

j. Admit only authorized personnel to park in assigned parking lots at the VA facility.

k. Report to VA Police, incidents of persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to Loma Linda VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics and detain only if requested by VA Police.

l. Document and report to the designated VA staff official potentially hazardous conditions, items in need of repair, including inoperative lights, leaky faucets, toilet stoppages, broken or slippery floor surfaces.

m. Security Guards may be assigned to parking lot entrances by VA Police to monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow, to deter illegal parking and to write courtesy violations when authorized by VA Police.

n. Assist VA Police and support Police actions only when directed by the VA Police Officer at the scene or by VA Police Dispatch.

o. Notify VA Police immediately of any alarm and report to the site within 15 minutes of alarm (if requested) by VA Police Dispatch.

p. The local Police shall be notified first if a crime is in progress or there is evidence that a crime has taken place.

q. Assist VA personnel with incapacitated patient.

Security Guards shall not have the following items.

a. Handcuffs
b. Batons/Clubs
c. Firearms (even if licensed)
d. Knifes
e. Headphones.
f. Pepper spray
g. Brass Knuckles
h. Stun Guns

6. PROHIBITED ACTIVITY:

a. Security Guards are prohibited from sitting in personal vehicles (or any other privately owned vehicle) while providing security services.

b. Security Guards are prohibited from pursuing suspects.

c. Security Guards shall not physically search anyone, even if consent is given.

d. Security Guards shall not conduct investigations at any VA Facility.

Additional Information:

Parking: It is the responsibility of the contract personnel to park in the appropriate designated parking areas. Parking information is available from VA Police & Security Service Office. The guard assumes full responsibility for any parking violations. The VALLHS does not validate or make reimbursement for parking violations of the contractor's personnel.

Smoking: Personnels may not smoke on any VA controlled properties. It is the responsibility of the VISN 22 Healthcare Facilities to provide a safe and healthful environment for employees and patients and to serve as a leader in community health awareness and education. It is in fulfillment of this obligation that the facilities are committed to the establishment of a smoke-free environment. This policy applies to every location within the VA Healthcare Facilities.
