Position Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer creates, develops and implements a comprehensive internal and external marketing plan to expand access to service through market development, referral sources, revenues and maintaining and growing relationships for such, throughout the organization. Proactively analyzes internal and external business trends and constructs appropriate growth plans.

This individual will identify new opportunities to grow portfolio engagement across all fundraising channels to increase revenue, including corporate partnerships, commercial co-­ventures, special events and individual giving. A successful candidate will manage and steward a portfolio of corporate and individual relationships and work as a team player to drive growth that achieves our mission and revenue goals. This position is accountable for significant revenue targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Florida reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following:

  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in keeping with the organization's values, vision, and mission.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors in developing and executing the fundraising strategic plan. Leads Board Development Committee meetings.
  • Manage the operations development function, overseeing development activities including annual fund, mailings, drives, and special events, while directing the creation of fundraising support materials such as direct mail letters, event materials, publications, and gift recognition programs. Additionally, oversee stewardship, gift accounting, and reporting functions to ensure personal and timely acknowledgment of all donor gifts, while maintaining oversight of Donor database and tracking systems for site-specific and Covenant House International, ensuring prompt recording of all interactions into the CRM within the same business week.
  • Establish and maintain a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to attract, retain, and engage donors and fundraising volunteers.
  • In partnership with Covenant House International, grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors. Including capital campaign donors. Oversee prospect research.
  • In partnerships with Grants Administration team, grow corporation and foundation grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the fund development program.
  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about the mission with the community.
  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations, laws, and the code of ethics for fundraising professionals while demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
  • Work with Chief Executive Officer to solicit funders for Covenant House Florida Capital Campaigns.
  • Attend fundraising seminars and training that are relevant to the position, travel for donor meetings, receptions, major fundraising events, staff retreats and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Leadership or requested by fellow members of the Covenant House development community.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 10 years of experience in high-level non-profit fundraising required 15 years preferred. 10 years of working knowledge of annual/capital campaigns, major gifts, foundation/corporate solicitations, communications and special events with at least 5 years of management experience.

Strong attention to details, organizational and time management skills.

SCHEDULE:

Working flexible hours as required to meet client needs during events which may take place outside of regular Monday-Friday business hours; this may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings.

SKILLS:

Must be a self-starter, goal oriented and team player with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have demonstrated ability to personalize Covenant House Florida Mission to donors depending upon demographic variables and exercise appropriate judgement. Must have strong supervisory and mentoring skills with team leadership ability, problem solving and negotiating skills with the ability to persuade and motivate others, organizational and time management skills Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by concise, timely and professional correspondence, both written and verbal.

TRANSPORTATION:

Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record. This position requires the incumbent to travel regularly to visit key donors throughout Florida.

Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.

Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Must be proficient in usage of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Office Suite, and internet-based software. Experience with donor data software preferred.
