You will report to the Director of Residence Life and work closing with the Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Development. Under the general direction of the Director, you will coordinate community standards, administrative, maintenance, and programming responsibilities for your residential communities. The Residence Hall Coordinator is responsible for supervising student staff; advising hall councils; implementing the residential curriculum model; providing on-call coverage; and helping foster living-learning communities (as applicable). Assist the Director of Residence Life in the coordination of community standards, administrative, maintenance, and programming responsibilities for a residential community which may include but not limited to living-learning communities and facilitation of a residential curriculum model. Supervise a student staff of 7-21, consisting of Senior Resident Assistants and Resident Assistants (RAs). Participate in student behavioral interventions; provide on-call coverage; facilitate residence hall programming efforts; support student leadership development including advising hall councils; and assist with student staff selection, training, and evaluation. Respond independently to emergency situations and coordinate departmental responses. Responsible for supporting and engaging with retention initiatives and student experience assessment and evaluation. This includes support of the student retention committee and academic success programs - Encourages faculty involvement in residence halls Administration and Programming - Conducts weekly residential hall area inspections, check-in/outs, and emergency lockouts to student and staff and functions as front-line supervisor when student questions arise Completes all reports, including programming, incident, department responsibility, Living Learning Community and end-of- quarter/year reports, on a regular basis or as directed by the Director or designee - Consults with Housing and Residence Life administration on a regular basis as to appropriateness of budget expenditures and student revenue generating activities - Represents Housing and Residence Life and serves on campus-wide committees as assigned - Assists in supporting Orientation and Transition Programs with Wildcat Day, Orientation, Wildcat Welcome Weekend and First-Six Weeks. - Communicates and responds to students, staff, and faculty in supporting the success of residential students - Assists with the development and distribution of hall and campus activities through such means as, social media, posters, and newsletters - Assists with university, student, and residence hall assessments processes including benchmarking, retention efforts, and student connections including but not limited to Skyfactor Resident Assessment, NSSE, and Student Success Survey -Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of living learning programs, act as a liaison for student staff and appropriate University faculty and staff participants - Coordinates area and hall-wide residence hall student development programs. Facilitate diverse activities that value and promote multicultural issues - Presents educational program-related workshops as needed - Assists with the coordination of special functions within Housing and Residence Life. These operations may include student staff selection, staff development, staff recognition, academic initiatives, advising RHA, and professional staff selection, etc. - Works directly with students, faculty, hall staff, and various other University and community resources to meet the educational and developmental needs of residence hall students Residential Student Support - Facilitates student learning and growth within a residential community setting - Provides behavioral intervention to students including counseling, mediation, problem solving, policy incidents and referrals of individuals or groups of students regarding personal concerns, academic needs, or policies - Serves in an on-call rotation with residence life that serves as immediate contact and responder for students and university officials - Responds to and supports medical, safety and security emergencies and to students in personal crisis as needed. Serves as departmental representative in these situations and exercises independent judgment with response and communication to supervisor - Reviews incident reports, follows-up with students involved in documented incidents, adjudicates conduct, and determines various levels of behavioral sanctions. - Seeks consultation regarding behavior interventions and refers high-level incidents to Housing and Residence Life leadership or designee - Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree One academic year of full-time professional experience in a residence hall setting, or 2-academic years of graduate student experience in a residence hall setting or student affairs related experience Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, including oral and written communication Experience that demonstrates an understanding of living-learning communities and/or other co-curricular programs- Evidence of ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to a focus on equity and justice and the ability to foster communities that supports diversity Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences OR any combination of education and/or experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field Experience implementing and leading in a residential curriculum environment Experience working with a living learning community with specific programmatic requirements and faculty engagement. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $45,711 - $51,089, plus an apartment valued at $300/month. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Schedule/Appointment : Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch) Working Conditions : This is a live-in position requiring on-call responsibilities. Daily work is conducted in an office setting with site visits to assigned area residence halls, student rooms, common areas, and community rooms. On-call responsibilities may be conducted in the same areas with the possibility of response to situations outdoors. Some weekend hours may be assigned as needed.
