Mine Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary: Position includes but is not limited to performing preventative care maintenance duties for the Shoals, IN underground mine.

Pay Rate: $24.27-$31.60 per hour

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, estimate, and complete repairs on mobile equipment and fixed equipment.
  • Repair, rebuild, and maintain various equipment such as pumps, conveyors, and crushers.
  • Examine parts and components for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Display the ability to accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Accurately interpret information from schematics, maintenance and parts manuals, and OEM standards and specifications.
  • Make the necessary repairs (overhauls, maintenance, service, or reconditioning) in a timely fashion to get the job done and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Perform all assigned work in a safe, well-managed manner and assure that the work area is safe for mechanics and other employees to work.
  • Keep in active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and other crews to coordinate work and provide updates on progress.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance prior to releasing for return to active duty.
  • Return well-documented and accurately completed work orders in a timely manner.
  • Conduct service on all assigned equipment in accordance with original manufacturer specifications and standards in a safe, efficient, and environmentally secure manner.
  • Report equipment condition to maintenance supervisor for potential issues.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards with focus on the care and custody of materials.
  • Safely operate and park equipment within the shop areas.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (e.g., guarding, blocking, lock-out, tag-out, etc.).
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of mobile equipment braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, electronic engine controls.
  • Proven understanding of failure and wear analysis.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of all tools and equipment necessary to work in the Mobile Maintenance Department.
  • Proven ability to perform basic welding and cutting.
  • Demonstrated competency in the completion of detailed paperwork (i.e., work orders).
  • Proven ability to use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) Key

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Three (3) or more years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in a mining, construction or farming environment required.
  • Experience maintaining diesel equipment required.
  • Experience maintaining electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on mobile equipment required.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics of mobile equipment required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills required.
  • Proven excellent safety and attendance record required.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment required.
  • Trade school or college degree or certificate in heavy-duty mechanics preferred.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
