Position Title: Transportation Officer (TO) / Facility Guard Officer (FGO) - 1099 Independent Contractor

Position SummaryThis position is responsible for Transportation services will include escort, guard, and transport services for detainees in DHS custody.Role and Responsibilities
  • Ensure detainees are properly prepared for and transported in accordance with CUSTOMS & BORDER PROTECTION Performance Standards.
  • Patting down all detainees and applying appropriate restraints prior to boarding vehicles.
  • Monitoring detainees to ensure appropriate behavior during transport.
  • Securing the detainee transfer paperwork in the vehicle and ensuring appropriate
  • distribution upon delivery of detainees to destinations.
  • Ensure the inventory of detainee baggage/valuables has been properly completed by visual examination of appropriate documentation.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Sector Manager.
  • Maintains the security of the facility and outside properties and assets.
  • Performs inside and outside patrols.
  • Patrols assigned areas
  • Identifies unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries or damages to facility property, detainees, visitors, and employees.
  • Performs standby with detainees and/or restraint of unruly/combative detainees
  • when authorized, assists in the restraint of detainees
  • Responds immediately to code and emergency requests on site and between destinations.
  • Completes and maintains security logs and reports.
  • Ensures incident and shift reports are completed in a timely matter.
  • Provides coverage and relief consistent with a 24-hour coverage requirement:
  • Performs shuttle and escort service for detainees and equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None
Required Qualifications and Education
  • Have at least one year of experience as a law enforcement officer, military police officer, a period of active-duty military experience (with an honorable discharge), or six months of experience as a security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative detainees.
  • Have one year of professional experience interacting with the general public
  • Have a proficiency in communicating and reading/writing in Spanish
  • Have a comfort and proficiency in the use and maintenance of firearms
  • Be able to maintain a groomed and kempt appearance and uniform when in a public facing position
  • Be comfortable writing reports
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a CDL License and medical DOT certificate.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
  • Be a US citizen or permanent resident
Work Environment
  • Part-Time Hours - May include rotating shifts, assignments, and overtime on a regular and recurring basis.
Physical Demands
  • Must pass DOT physical
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Adapt to temperature changes (including extreme heat).
