Position Overview:

We are looking for a committed Youth Alpine Ski Coach to complement our qualified and enthusiastic Coaching Staff at the Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy. You will be responsible for preparing and implementing a daily coaching plan along with a seasonal coaching plan for long-term skill development.

It will be fundamental to provide technical knowledge and instruction to athletes while also helping them to develop their personalities and moral character. An absolute emphasis on safety, judgement, and awareness both on and off snow are also key components to what we do daily.

The Ideal candidate will be passionate for the job with an ability to reach out to athletes and parents while creating a relationship of mutual trust. Candidates should have a solid understanding of group management and organization that will in turn make learning an enjoyable and meaningful process.

The goal is to help cultivate athlete’s love for the sport of skiing, interest in technical development and be their dedicated ally in the entire process of being a member of SBSTA.


Coaching Responsibilities

  • Understand SBSTA and SBC Safety Policies, and manage all athletes with a total emphasis on Athlete and Staff safety.
  • Understand physical and social development, and coach to those abilities.
  • Provide technical skill development through a process of utilizing games, drills, verbal explanation, visual modelling, and physical practice.
  • Provide individualized instruction to each athlete while maintaining effective group management.
  • Assess athlete’s progress and provide 2 technical evaluations- one mid-season and one at completion of the season.
  • Collaborate with, and learn from other coaches, staff members, guest coaches, and management.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents and athletes both within and outside of your group.
  • Have a willingness to learn and grow both personally and professionally


Requirements

  • Fun and enthusiastic personality
  • Experience as a coach and/or teacher
  • Well organized, committed, and punctual
  • Strong moral values and discipline
  • Requirements including USSS Membership, Safesport, CPR/First Aid Certification.  Level 100 Certification preferred.

  • As a condition of employment all SBSTA employees must pass a State of California fingerprinting background check via Livescan and complete a Safesport Training course.
