Job Purpose:
Residential Care Aids (RCA) are responsible for the facilitation and delivery of care services according to meet the needs of persons served in a 24/7 Residential Care Facility II. RCA(s) ensure a therapeutic, clean, and safe environment which is productive, meaningful, and provided in a manner that is appropriate for the person(s)-served within the care setting.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Level I Medication Aid (LIMA) certificate or Certified Nurses Aid (CNA) and in good standing in the state of Missouri preferred.
- Must have successfully completed or be willing to complete the Insulin Administration Training Program within three months of hire.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR) preferred.
- Missouri Class "E" Chauffeur's license preferred
Core Job Duties:
- Monitor and assist person(s)-served and report any physical and/or emotional changes to the proper staff members.
- Monitor vital signs of person(s)-served, as required.
- Assist person(s)-served with activities of daily living, housekeeping, cleaning duties, and some meal preparation.
- Observe, report and record response(s) of the resident(s) to medications.
- Observe and report changes in person(s)-served physical condition, skin conditions and cognitive/emotional status to Licensed Practical Nurse, or Facility Manager.
- Maintain an accurate account of controlled substances.
- Order and monitor appropriate use of needed supplies including reordering of medications.
- Administer specified treatments and records.
- Maintain oxygen systems for person(s)-served daily; administer oxygen by nasal cannula as needed.
- Record incidents, errors, and/or accidents.
- Conduct room checks and makes resident rounds.
- Assist with quality assurance programs and in training new staff.
- Provide and promote customer service for person(s)-served, employees, and visitors.
- Prepare, administer, and document medications by all routes in compliance with all State and Federal regulations.
- Orient new arrivals to activities, introduce them to other participants, explain facility rules and encourage participation.
- Provide continuous supervision of person(s)-served to ensure compliance with schedules and services.
- Coordinate crisis intervention services, as needed.
- Serve as a positive role model through professional appearance, therapeutic communication and respect for self and others.
- Obtain a wide range of information from physicians, caregivers, and nurses about patient conditions, treatment plans, and suggested activities.
- Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models.
- Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
- Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care.
- Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
- Other job duties and special projects as assigned.
