About the role

The Utility Locator will spend their day independently working in the field using their company-provided vehicle to locate and mark telephone lines, electrical power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines and sewer lines to help construction crews to avoid damaging them.

Responsibilities:

• Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities, including telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems
• Thoroughly search for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking the location, completing the necessary documentation, and photographing each locate

• Assists construction/installation crews when needed
• Completes all related paperwork in conjunction with job duties
• Analyzing blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place
• Following and enforcing occupational safety requirements
• Maintain accurate records of utility locations and updates

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Boss811 knowledge
• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Outdoor work experience
• Computer proficiency
• Available to work overtime and weekends, as needed
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record (company vehicle will be provided)
• Able to work in a confined space; walk, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
• Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners
