Job Description
This position is for a hybrid role functioning as both a Medical Assistant and Check In/Out Specialists at our Livonia orthopedic urgent care. This role requires an active Medical Assistant Certification. The Support Specialist assists with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Urgent Care under limited supervision, performs a variety of clinical functions associated with patient care, maintenance of the EMR, and some clerical taskts. These functions include performing diagnostic X-Ray examinations, assisting with DME, checking patients in and out, performing insurance verification, and more. This position involves working at both UC sites (Shelby and Livonia). This position will be cross trained as it involves working within the UC and orthopedic clinic at the Livonia office. This position is staffed for a combination of 12 and 8-hour shifts.
Job Duties:
· Greets and welcome all patients and accompanied companions to clinic and escorts patient to the treatment area.
· Maintains clean, safely equipped and adequately supplied treatment areas. Includes general housekeeping tasks as outlined per cleaning schedule, cleaning of all treatment areas with disinfectant and prepares room for next patient.
· Inventories clinical supplies and places supply orders to maintain desired inventory levels.
· Completes patient intake Reviews patient’s EMR, checking future orders and patient’s office notes, orders x-ray according to the provider guidelines.
· Prepares patient from examination and procedures and assisting provider as needed.
· Perform general diagnostic X-Ray for office patients as requested by the provider. Examine X-Ray images for density, contrast, definition and distortion. Save and send to the exam room for the physician to review.
· Performs miscellaneous radiology tasks.
· Under the direction and supervision of a provider removes staples and/or stitches, removes/applies casting, braces and dressings.
· Function as in-clinic PT Tech as needed and directed, under the supervision of the on-site PT.
· Maintains clean, safely equipped, and adequately supplied examining rooms. Inventories clinical supplies and places supply orders to maintain desired inventory levels.
· Maintaining clinic equipment and call service as needed. Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Report any malfunction equipment to direct supervisor immediately and report equipment as out of use.
· Effectively communicates with patients, families, and colleagues with an emphasis on achievement and maintaining a positive work environment.
· Assists provider and clinic staff as needed. Attend staff meetings, in-services and other meetings as requested.
· Other duties as assigned and/or determined by the practice to be necessary.
Basic Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED.
· Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
· Understanding of procedure and practices in the medial industry.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Experience in customer-focused service and the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
· Experience using Microsoft word, excel and electronic medical records.
Preferred Requirements:
· 6 months experience in the medical field.
· Experience with in-office procedures and assisting in such (orthopedic procedures in particular)
· A professional history of successfully working independently with minimal direct supervision
· A professional history of successfully working in fast-moving dynamic environments (medical in particular)
